It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Arthur Theate, Felix Uduokhai or Attila Szalai would all be solid budget options too IMO. Even Alessio Romagnoli could do a job on a free transfer.
Either Theate or Szalai would be decent enough but the former plays for a Serie A club they probably rinse us.

I don't get the knee jerk reaction/hysteria to Jesus, Sterling & likely Ake leaving this window. Or the ridiculous oh we have FFP issues conspiracy.

It's been obvious for months we were going to start to rebuild this window, we had to. Haaland is a upgrade on Jesus, a massive one, that's obvious to anyone with any semblance of a football brain, not a knock on Gabby just facts. Sterling has reached the end of his journey with us, Alvarez isn't the proven player Raheem is but potentially could be better suited in time we will see on that one. Phillips comes in with Ake out (possibly), Phillips is a elite Premier League midfielder and no doubt Pep's already worked out if worse comes to worse we could put him in at centre back. If Cucurella comes which seems likely I think we are a stronger squad then we had last season all things considered. The EDS sales of Latvia, Bazuna and co are smart business as we likely can't get them into the squad to develop so selling them on with buy back clauses is shrewd business. They can develop and we have first option like Douglas Luiz in the future.

People need to look at the deals as a whole not as a single transfer in each case. The club is run by experts in this field, not haphazard morons. They won't get it all right but Ferran, Txiki and co know what they're doing.

I'm more excited to see what Peo can do with the rebuild of the squad coming into this season. If we can get a Pep extension it will make it more exciting. As far as I'm concerned we still have the best squad in the League with the moves we've made.

Uh no, we won 100 points with Stones, Otamendi, Laporte and Kompany.

Mangala was 7th choice behind those 4, Garcia and Sandler who both played more games.
Sandler and Garcia played 0 games, Sandler wasn't even signed until the summer.

Mangala started the season as 4th choice, then around Oct or nov both Stones and Kompany got injured leaving Mangala to play with otamendi. Laporte was then bought in January. Mangala then went out on loan and got a serious injury.

If and only if Ake goes, Denayer would make a bit of sense as a 4th choice CB. Decent player in there and I think he would be classed as club trained, plus he's available on a free.
Dont know if there was any bad blood when he left us however.

How is he an obstacle? Palmer will be eased in to the team the same way Foden has and if he's good enough, he'll be a regular just as Mahrez' time at the club is coming to an end. It's literally an ideal scenario.
They play the exact same style. And Mahrez is just better. What's the benefit from starting Palmer? There is no tactical change from Palmer to Mahrez like there would be with Sterling/Jesus. It gives us less tactical flexibility.

I think it would be better to let Mahrez's contract expire as Palmer gets more eased in and replace him with a right footed right winger for more options.

I always wonder when bringing players back whether they would be happy to come back (as if they’ve proved a point that they’re good enough for our level) or they would be less willing to do so as they feel the club fucked them off in the first place

Who knows
