Think Jay Z's overall discography is a bit underrated, you know. For a long time now you can sense Jay-Z just doesn't have anything to rap about now other than his millions, his wife or kids.
Although he did just do a decent track on Pusha Ts new album
Last Jay-Z album I could listen to with no skips will of been the Black Album for sure.
Obviously he's really well regarded and he's hardly underrated as an MC but some of his "lesser" albums have got loads of terrific stuff that gets overlooked imo.
He's obviously got his three classics (Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, The Black Album) and the odd stinker (Magna Carta, Unfinished Business) but albums like In My Lifetime, The Dynasty, American Gangster, and The Blueprint 3 are all pretty underrated by hip hop heads.
Not sure why. Maybe serious heads see them as pop albums and get a bit sniffy about them? I don't think he's ever had a run of undisputed classics like Ice Cube, Eminem, Kendrick, or whoever, but the lesser parts of his discography are a lot stronger than they're given credit for imo.
