It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

To be honest, I think Ake is pretty much nailed on for the Dutch starting eleven alongside VVD in the WC whoever he plays for, or how often he's playing.
Same with Raheem Sterling for England.

It's not about the World Cup, imo, it's just about playing regular football. Both Ake and Sterling probably see themselves as no more than 'bit players' at City. They need these moves.
Ake is not above VVD, deLigt, or deVrij for the Netherlands...

I don't get this 'signing a player to be 4th choice'. Do you think Pep will say to any potential player - "I want to sign you to be 4th choice behind my favourites Dias Stones and Laporte".

If we sign a player and he's worthy of starting a game he'll start, simple as that.
I agree, if City pursues any of deLigt, Kounde, Gvardiol they would come in as 1 of 4 battling for time...if they go for a less expensive older player or even a young up and comer it could be deemed more as cover for the other three...but one would still want that player to fight for time...

Players can be whatever Pep says they can be. He can be very effective as a more attacking player especially if he has a full back over lapping him, or he’s under lapping a full back.

Pep said so, he play as full back because he need him to be in that position eventhough he always be a midfielder. He also asked him to play as false nine not to long ago when we play against PSG at home.

Zinchenko will be whatever Pep demanded him to be, he have no choice really if he want to stay and continuing his career at City.

The post we were talking about suggested Pep wanted to use him there sometimes, I have no idea if he does or not, but if he does I’m not going to say he’s wrong. We also might not play 433, I think with only one traditional wide player we might not, at least not exclusively.

Pep has previously said that zinchenko's lack of pace stops him from playing left wing for us.
Unless he has been doing lots of speed work it pep is planning a change in system, I can't see him playing further forward too often.
The 2nd half performance against Villa, more of a wingback than out and out winger will give Pep food for thought

Alvarez can play wide if need be so depends how fast he settles in, Palmer is looking very good, some people think he will be better than Foden eventually. my main worry is our CB's if Ake goes, Laporte and Stones get injured alot and dont want a repeat of the end of last season having to play a midfielder at CB because they was all injured, hopefully Ake stays but looking like he's off
Ifs & buts, what if they stay reletively injury free and we have a player who doesnt get many starts. On decent wages

I must be in an alternate universe...Zinchenko has NEVER played as a winger in a 4-3-3 under Pep...NEVER...he pushed up like crazy v Villa because we had to go for broke but Foden remained as the left winger for the entire match...I keep saying he's not a winger and people like yourself keep bringing up that he has played as a 10, as an 8, as a false 9, as a 6...I'm saying NOT AS A 7/11...

Top players should always fancy themselves to get the starting spot.

Ake knows he isn't good enough to dislodge the other 3.

Some players should have more bottle.
How do you that Ake knows he's not good enough, if that was the case why did he sign in the 1st place. Hes shown enough bottle to become an integral part of the team at the end of last season. Who knows what Pep or Van Gaal have said to him privately

Exactly, not an out and out winger...wingback a different story...I would think he'd do well there...

Well it's pretty obvious he doesn't fancy his chances at City otherwise he wouldn't want the move away. I guarantee in a couple seasons he won't be a starter for Chelsea either.

He said he wanted to fight to get more game time but maybe the lure of guaranteed play time has turned his head? Maybe the wife wants London again?

Not obvious, could be many reasons he is tempted by the chelsea move. He didn’t seem interested in leaving until the chelsea links.
