It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Mangala is so the wrong fucking example for this it is almost satirical. A top rated player that cost 42m at a time when that type of fee was a pisstake, who found himself down the pecking order after we brought in more capable players.

Could have said Eric Garcia if you really wanted to make the point. But then that year was a bit of a defensive shitshow wasn't it.
Its just not, he was a washed player by the time 2017/18 came along. But we coped and he played around 1000 minutes.

I'm saying get a replacement for ake. But it can be a 20m player not a fucking 60m pipedream fairytale that people are dreaming of here.

Ake is a very capable CB, who was playing well before the injury. We need to replace with at least the same quality if he leaves, I imagine the 3 top CB's is enough lot will feel a little different if we pick up a couple of injuries, and are shoehorning midfielder's into CB for big games.
We were doing that last season while Ake was in the squad anyway. If we get the same amount of injuries at CB it’s going to be the same story whether we spend HUGE on a replacement or not.

Also, we were hurt much more by the lack of fullback depth which meant we had to play stones and Ake on the wings for many games.

Get another fullback and that will help make sure we don't get the same defensive crisis anymore.

Or, you know, get a leftback and a cb, like it sounds like City are, if Akes goes.

MEN seem to be linking us with a £76mill move for De Ligt, can’t see it myself as he’s right sided and he’s linked to Chelsea and Bayern where he’d be definitely starting.

Same as Kounde links, imo not happening at all.

You do realise at least 2 CBs play every game right. Can't work.out if uour wording is accidental or deliberate, but none would be 'spare', 3 for 2 positions is unmanageable for a season of circa 60 games, no matter how good they are.
We invariably sign international players, so you can add 6/9 games a season too.

I'm not arsed how much we spend, but whoever is brought in has to be good enough to play plenty if required. We won't go with 3 CB's whatever a few are suggesting, and we don't sign donkey's, so I'm not expecting the club will move for some cheap (ability wise) 4th CB option.

A few seem to think Zin is from left wing maestro because of one move against Villa, which was class Tbf.

He’s a solid backup LB due to Pep coaching. Quality squad player, hope he stays.

Respectfully disagree on both. The second one less so.

Mangala may have not been the same player he was when we bought him, doesn't change the fact he was a top player bought for an insane fee.

Be delighted with the club buying a 20m player. Heck, be delighted if there was someone in the academy that could get promoted and properly included and relied on. But there doesn'tseem to be.

While I am not exactly suggesting we need a top expensive signing, I can't see the club actively looking for a player that is anything but capable and good enough to perform well when called upon. Like Ake did on so many occasions. Not fussed what they cost at all.

I don’t think we’d purposely go out and buy a mediocre player to sit at the back of the queue, perhaps a younger CB with potential instead.
Can’t see City spending £50,60m+ on a De Ligt or Kounde when they’d start anywhere else.
Personally don’t care what they spend and on who, but doesn’t make sense they’d get a prime top level experienced starter.

I can't believe anything about Ake rests on recruiting a left back. Last season we got away with not having specialist left back, let alone 2.
Our squad was exposed in defence at the end of the season and only a great tactician got us over the line.
Also, you never make wholesale charges if possible and we have no choice in defence. We're bedding in 2 new forwards and a midfielder, we can't be short of options at the back.
