It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

so is it Romano vs Blackburn then
Romano normally confirms a transfer only after it is almost done and Blackburn is reliable for City.
Romano almost confirming Zinc to Arsenal and Blackburn saying the deal is in balance. I am almost confused.
So if the deal fails you would say blackburn was wrong?

He literally just said the deal is not as complete as people make out, finish

Bernardo is not the engine of our midfielder.
It’s just myth. He is the reason we have so many problems defensively when he plays along KDB and Rodri.
The last 6 games we won 5 and draw one. Bernardo played as MF on two of them.
West Ham 2:2
Villa played until 68th minute. He was subbed then and history happened. He is winger or support for the winger. Or attacking MF. It is lovely to see him running behind Ryad on the left also. If KDB‘s on the pitch we need proper MFs in order to be stronger defensively.
It is nice to see him running with ball but our game is easier to build with Gundo on the pitch and his passing.

It's rubbish to say he's the reason we have problems defensively when he plays alongside KDB & Rodri - KDB is the issue in that regard, but he makes up for it (particularly in the run in last year) with attacking contributions. Bernardo is everywhere when he plays 8: sitting with Rodri when needed, driving forwards, tracking back, making tackles etc.

His stats per 90 last year compare favorably with Gundo and KDB in defensive actions per 90 (with KDB making more of his in the final third). Gundo is better at pausa and late runs, but he doesn't make a better defensive contribution.

When you say so many problems defensively, I’m pretty sure we had the best defensive record in the Prem, so what problems are you talking about?
I‘m talking about those 4 counter attack goals from West Ham and Villa. That could cost us tittle. I love Bernardo and he is one my favorites but I also think he as MF is Pep overthinking‘s product. Sometimes works but it causes a lot of problems too.

If we have KDB on the pitch we need proper MC to support Rodri in build up.

Interesting angle. I think it's a bit too small a selection to be definitive for me, and too strong to call it a "myth". You will catch some fish with this one.

We've watched Bernardo be MOTM against Liverpool from CM on more than one occasion, for example.

I see where you're coming from that him + KDB might not always be the best combo though. It puts a lot on Rodri and potentially constrains the attacking output from De Bruyne, a world class player, to accommodate Bernardo, an absolutely outstanding player of course, but not the level of KDB.

That said the flip side is Bernie can be so threatening maybe it makes KDB better?

I'd love to see more stats on it.
That is just something I noticed in last third of the season. I‘ll look at stats of other games too. As I said, I see him everywhere supporting our wingers.
I hope Pep will try Zinch on MF position, if he stay

Have to disagree mate. We’ve not done too badly playing Bernardo & Kev together, or am I missing your point?

Not sure 'PSG offer Neymar to City who said no thanks' equates to us being all in for him and doing all we can to sign him?
I suppose this is the transfer forum though where normality and common sense are very much left at the front door.
This a thousand times Phil. I could have sworn the kids had broken up early reading some of this thread.

Bowen goal 1 - whacked forward from halfway on right hand side, Laporte caught playing a poor offside trap.

Bowen goal 2 - Soucek wins header against Bernardo, flicks onto Antonio who plays a ball over Ferna, Laporte (in no man's land) with Zinchenko playing a poor offside trap.

Matty Cash - Ramsey drives past Rodri, Watkins has a gap on Stones (not tight) and cross is met by Cash at the back post with Cancelo sleeping

Coutinho - Rodri loses header against Watkins, who flicks on to Coutinho, who cuts inside past Laporte and finishes early.

At no point was Bernardo at fault for any of the goals. At a push, a taller person may have beaten Soucek but the calamitous defending behind was the cause. Saying it was down to Bernardo is bizarre correlation that doesn't stand up to scrutiny.
