West Ham United (A) | Sun 7th Aug | Post Match Thread

Impressive start especially considering the problems they caused us at the end of last season. Pep tweaking it again and on many occasions we were playing a 2-3-5 with Dias and Ake at the back, Cancelo, Rodders and Walker in the middle and five up front. So much more dominant of a team that is playing in Europe than pretty much every other team that played away this week. Another week of training to follow to get fitter. Will have tougher tests this season but WHU will cause teams problems again this season

We are allowed to talk about ex players and we can either big them up or dig them out, we all have different opinions.
We do have different opinions, but what's the point of saying sterling would have done this or wouldn't have done that?

Right. I've seen Aguero miss sitters. Every attacker in the world does. But since Aguero left we've missed a goal scorer who is natural and who you instinctively back in a one on one. Not a knock on Sterling or Jesus, they had and have many excellent qualities, but they just don't have that killer instinct. I think it's fair enough to say that even in that one moment today you saw someone at complete ease in front of goal.
That's the point. That's what others and I are saying, it's not about knocking Sterling as some seem to think, it's simply saying we now have a player that's far less likely to miss those chances.

Raz is not Haaland and vice versa, but their excellent movement is certainly a thing they have in common. I loved raz most of the time and hated him for 12 months but can we just move on. There is no comparison.

On related and completly calm and unbiased news Erling is the best fucking player I've ever seen!! :)

Loved Haaland's Neil celebration.

What I loved about Haaland's 2nd goal was how he looked so powerful as he ran through, almost like he had zero doubts he would score. The finish was subsequently emphatic. Clinical.
The difference between him and sterling is on another planet if that had been sterling hands up who thinks he would score

Agreed. I think some have taken the original post (which wasn't mine) out of context.

Can’t be bothered putting into words yet how much I enjoyed that.

Tough away game when we know we aren’t up to speed, yet practically utter domination and should have been more than 2 with Eddie barely getting his knees dirty.

Haaland is just fucking magic, the acceleration for his second, no wonder he said he’s rarely offside, his speed gave him that much time he could curve his run around the ball to give him an easier finish with his left and Zouma was still 5 yards away from him.

Beast.

p.s. I can’t fucking wait for next Saturday.

Noticed that Cancelo and Walker barely overlapped at all today and were both playing the inverted full-back role which allowed Gundogan and De Bruyne to play higher up. Coincidentally (or maybe not) both goals came via through balls from Gundo and KDB.

Looks like this might be Pep's solution to not having the natural width from a left-footed LB that he was expecting to have with Cucurella, i.e., to allow both number 8's more freedom to create.
