Of course, but ultimately the people in dire need won’t care about why they’ve got to pay £4K for heating, it’ll be how they pay £4K for heating.Whilst people might not care where the money is coming from, the solution has to be one that works in the real world.
Is it not relevant to ask/discuss on here how we think that might happen?
A recent report in the FT says that the IMF are recommending that governments pass on the full cost to users, with only limited intervention to help those in dire need. Of course that may be many millions in the UK the way this is going.
I bet a few people wish they’d taken heed of their message now and got better insulation.Extinction rebellion, what are they up to these days..
Supply and demand. Germany did use to buy most of their gas from Russia, but now buy it off the international wholesale market, driving prices up.Why is the wholesale price going up so much. We rely less and less on Russia so surely we are now buying more volume from other countries and the cost should be going down
they're extinct now, wiped out by the stop oil virusExtinction rebellion, what are they up to these days..
Is it not the standing charge that is gonna screw people?? You can cut down as much as you like but whilst this remains high, you’re fucked
Well someone needs to sort out the cost as it's getting mad. It's like having a mortgage on your house. My bills in 18 months have gone from around £120pm to around £300 currently and no doubt that will go up hugely again shortly and again in January.Supply and demand. I’m stocking up with thermals, hot water bottles etc.Well someone needs to sort out the cost as it's getting mad. It's like having a mortgage on your house. agreed, the energy companys have been quite quick off the mark here,i was on 3 month bill and out of the blue Eon stopped these and made it one month so in effect if i default they can cut me off in say around 6 weeks now with the smart meter, on the 3 month payment system i could have racked up hundreds if not thousands then pleaded poverty, sadly its all a mess frightening to see where we may be at next AprilIn that case, the government should intervene and order that any agreed repayment plans/deferred payments don't affect credit scores while prices remain high. They did this during the first Covid lockdown with mortgages. People were allowed to defer mortgage payments for up to 6 months without it affecting their credit score. If they did it then, they can surely do it now.
The rise in domestic energy bills is the product of the energy price cap, and the energy price cap methodology is determined entirely by government intervention, via OFGEM. The energy companies themselves have very little influence over price formation.Thieving cunts are making billions on the back of peoples misery.....WTF is going on in this world?
Intervention is essential.....the shithouse Govt finally has to do something meaningful and prevent these greedy companies from exploiting ordinary folk, otherwise lives will be destroyed.

Some expert on the news last night was claiming that we are looking at at least 3 winters of high prices.I’m stocking up with thermals, hot water bottles etc.
Then hoping the madness subsides next year somehow.
It will only stop when those that are capable of stopping it have filled their pockets.I’m stocking up with thermals, hot water bottles etc.

Or we realise that we can’t have a totally free market. It will only stop when those that are capable of stopping it have filled their pockets.
Our next major purchase for the house looks like it will be an eco-friendly dual fuel wood burner. These are supposed to save a bit on gas bills. Does anybody have any experience of this? Of course, with installation costs, etc, the initial outlay will be high but our current gas fire is shit anyway and needs replacing as it doesn't seem to give off nearly enough heat when it's on.
