Newcastle United (A) | Post Match thread

Played newcastle , Ill take a point after being 3-1 down , poor performances from a few particularly Foden and Walker
Tbf Walker has been outstanding for us for years. He still didnt shy away from the game today even when struggling. Sign of good character and we need to back players like that to the hilt.

Can someone please tell me the last time a straight "Red Card" was overturned in game by VAR.

On the grounds of it supposedly being "a clear and obvious error".

When it was anything but a clear and obvious error.

I can not think of a game.

Cheers in advance.

Feels to me like VAR review, and go to the Monitor has become a code message for changing the out come.

I can not remember a game where the Ref has not overturned a decision after going to the monitor.

"VAR Booth here walk to monitor and change ruling".

Considering how hard Pep made it for the team it's a good point. But we are so vunerable to pace its unreal. A lot on here calling out Walker, but Cancelo was just as bad and not for the first time. None of our Centre halves seem to carry it forward as well as laporte and he's better at attacking corners than the rest too. Big Season for Foden, he needs to do more if he's to become the player he has promised to be.
Could have been better , could have been worse. We'll take the point and move on.

I know we all have opinions on VAR but that was a bizarre one today…. That was a red card all day long… no precedent to reverse it.

Foden shite another chance to square it and he didn’t. Like I said we didn’t have a striker we kept crossing now we have a striker and can’t cross. I also don’t understand the no subs part. Just confusing with Alvarez and mahrez on the bench surely they could have helped
Saving the subs for the important game v Barca ;-)

At 0-1 we were looking in total control and if Foden squares that ball to Haaland to make it 0-2 (he had an open fucking net!). That changed the game as it gave them a massive boost not going 0-2 down, everything good for Newcastle and bad for us stemmed from that moment.

Simply not good enough from Foden.
Haaland may have miscued it like he did in the first half and also against Bournemouth last week.

Newcastle dug in when a goal down and rolled their sleeves up and turned the game right around, they deserve a lot of credit but it’s no use if they don’t follow up on what was a fantastic draw for them by putting in the effort at their next home game,as for us all going to plan a goal up then we completely fall to pieces all over the pitch, wasnt until we made it 3-2 that we started to look more like ourselves but given the overall performance I’m happy enough with the point ..

Actually I’ll take the point after that complete mess from about 25 minutes to about 50 minutes. Then the response of champions. All a bit scrappy and why we were so terrified of saint whatever his bloody name is and I don’t know. Kyle just mark him and send him wide. But what I do know is I wish we could never have Hinchcliffe co commentate on the city game ever again he is so anti us. And generally the commentary team were getting totally giddy about Newcastle and ignoring some really good City play. Ah well. 7 from 3 is better than some we could mention. Thought Rodri had a really good game but looks like I’m in the minority over on the mom thread.

The red card was in no way a clear and obvious error so the VAR had no justification for asking the ref to go to the screen. Once he’s been told to look we all know he is under pressure from convention and the home crowd to overturn.

Sloppy sloppy sloppy

Passing was off all day.

Letting Newcastle run at us was a disaster.

Defence was all over the place. Midfield left Rodri on his own.

Positives:

Showed a lot of character to get back into the game. Haaland on the score sheet again.

Annoying:

That **** Hinch & Pep refusing to sub when players looked knackered.

Overall, early season form. Played a good Newcastle who will get points of alot of the top teams.

Improvements needed.

The matchday thread is normally an alternate reality - I would give it no credence at all.
