Gas & Electricity

Im a sole trader so shitting bricks that not only my bills are going up but that business will fall off a cliff. Ive been through recessions and such things before and its tough.

What is labours idea to help out? Be interested to know
Starmer finally played his hand by saying under Labour there would be no price rise and called for an emergency budget. Unless there’s a snap election the first can’t happen and the chances of the Tories doing anything remotely like helping the general public are zero. We’re knackered.

Could well be riots over this, maybe that will end up with a snap general election.

OFGEM CEO gaslighting the country on Skynews right now.

I quote….”energy companies are making no profits right now”

Just fuck off!

I think the fact that so many are going to be affected massively strengthens the case for government intervention, and it has to be far greater than what they’re already proposing to make a meaningful difference. Otherwise, we could be looking at recession and poverty on a scale that the vast majority of us have never seen in our lifetimes.

What the fuck! We’ve all seen some of the eye-watering profit figures that have been announced over the past few weeks.

OFGEM are cunts. I hear that the Good Lord Project are taking them to court if they don’t sort their shit out. If so, I hope OFGEM lose:

DId he mention anything about British Gas publicly stating they were giving 10% of their profits back?

Meanwhile our useless government is in week 5 of a 2 horse race and saying £400 is on the way as if that's going to Touch the surface.
Fucking useless twats

Interesting just looked at the standing charge rises, seems they’ve gone up on average about 1p, the actually rises for the gas/leccy itself is still 10p less than what the wanted people to fix at, HOWEVER, come January they reckon it’s going up another £2k!

We called a family meeting last night regarding the coming winter. We voted to not heat the house this winter and instead use the money we would have spent on the heating bill in our local pubs, restaurants, independent food shops and artisanal producers. Going cold for one winter to support our local business and ensure they are still there when this passes is the least we can all do.

Good luck with that when it’s -3 in the gaff and you’re that cold your cock disappears.

There is a general view that gas and electricity suppliers are profiteering. Hitherto, that has not been the case. Overall such suppliers have a profit margin of about 5%.
(Ebit). Not so long ago, suppliers were exiting the market, forcibly or by choice.
The profiteers are the distribution networks whose equivalent margin is about 40%. The justification for this is the level of investment needed to modernise and maintain the networks, but I think the regulator has had the wool pulled over his eyes, not for the first time. The networks never seem to spend quite what they said to the regulator was in their plans. Network shares trade at a premium.
So, don’t blame your gas/electricity supplier, get on to your local network and moan at them.
The only exception might be Centrica which appears to have a greater margin than all other retailers.
This begs the question: are the press asleep or just lazy?

This is true but they've still doubled their profit amount even though the % is really low

Only problem is that businesses aren’t even subject to the price cap, so they’ll likely not be able to afford to still be there. It’s a shit show, no doubt.
