Crystal Palace (H) | Post Match Thread

Of course, I’ll look back on every match and think who played well etc, including the opposition. Just won’t be bothering with scores out of ten or any other numerical bollocks! (Sergio gets eleven).
I think the point you missed originally, is that the main purpose of the expected goals stat was for betting. IF you're not interested in betting it won't interest you, but it doesn't make it irrelevant.

Job done.
I hope Pep sees the error of setting up the way we did in the first half. That will only work against certain teams.
2nd half was a different story.
My highlight was the short curling cross from Foden to Haaland to score. I saw it on my phone and had to 2nd look at it to make sure it was Phil Foden and not Grealish. Seems he is a smart boy who is constantly learning and watching - also now listening. He looked so pleased when Haaland scored it was great to see and has hopefully hammered home Pep's message to play in that big blonde bloke - the one who makes Thor in the Marvel films look like Pee Wee Herman!

Anyone using stats and specificaly preďictive stats are morons.

You cannot predict any live sport and people who follow or think it's true are morons

That's a daft comment. Predictions are about what you think will happen. It doesn't necessarily mean they will be right.

Why does everybody think they're a better tactician than Pep? If you're accepting it will work against certain teams then you have to accept that you won't know which those teams are until you've tried it.

Tough on them but their second shouldn't have stood as Cancelo got elbowed in the head before the corner, so what goes around, comes around!
True, since when can you smash someone smack in the middle of the face with a forearm shiver and it not be a foul? Intent is irrelevant and takes a back seat to the actual blow to the face.

That was no "disallowed" goal. The ref blew the infraction straight away. You can't stick a foot into the keeper's hand as he's trying to release a ball. Every fucking quasi incident gets scrutinized to no end when City are involved. That was a routine call. Nothing to talk about.

We were shite for most of the first half, only berny seemed arsed, and then he dragged us back into the game, walker, and dias were terrible, foden and kev abject

Let us not gloss over most of the players were sub par, berny and haaland dug us out of a bang average performance
Not true about most. Stones played very well in the 2nd half. Foden was much better when he was dropped back into the midfield. Alvarez and Gundo were strong after coming on. Haaland and Bernardo were the stars of the show but they got some much needed help as well.

I think it's a free kick if you obstruct the keeper from distributing the ball, If Ederson was to try and kick the ball out of his hands and a player jumps in front of him it's a foul, obstruction.
All a bit soft for me but it was a foul nonetheless.
Its an infraction that will be called every time.

Cancelo has these periods in the season where it looks like he’s forgotten how to be a footballer.

He‘ll then score and set up 3 goals and have a purple patch.

Foden didn’t stay wide enough until he replaced Cancelo at LWB. That made our left side toothless as no one could cross the ball from the byline.
Cancelo needs some long over due time on the right.

There’s a flow to our attack which I love to see. Decision-making in and around the box is a huge improvement compared to when Sterling played for us. That’s why I called for his departure for so many years. I always knew we could improve in this department. Foden, Alvarez and Haaland together will create magic for this team. All so skillful and creative. I’m very excited to see what the future will bring with these guys in our front line.

You got it dude. 3 centre halves, 1 pivot, 2 wing backs cum wide men, 3 attacking men in running into the box and haaland smashing their ass (3-1-2-4)
That's exactly what it was with Bernardo and Alvarez flanking Haaland and KDB basically freelancing as the 4 up front. We basically overwhelmed them. It was fantastic to watch.

We didn’t get lucky. It’s one of the most uncontroversial decisions you could ever see. If the opposition player makes any kind of movement, interference or obstruction to the keeper while in the process of kicking or throwing the ball it’s a foul.

It was clear as day in the stadium and equally clear in footage that the palace player raised his foot towards ederson while he was throwing the ball.

It’s actually pretty baffling this is even being discussed as being anything other than a cast iron free kick. The only controversy is that he didn’t get booked.
You Sir are 1000% correct!!!!
