Formula 1 2022

Okay. Maybe not "regressing" per se. That was a tad overdramatic on my part. But he's clearly in an inferior car right now, as you've acknowledged. Unless Mercedes can pull a rabbit out of the hat later this season, and into next season, will Lewis be happy with the current scenario continuing? I don't know.
Mercedes must be working on next years car already - with the resources at their disposal you'd think they'd be unlikely to design another duffer.

Who knows..

Ferrari engineer asking Leclerc to make the strategic decisions while the guy is driving round - and broadcasting all of it to the world's media and the other teams.

Absolute fucking muppets. You can hear in Leclerc's voice he thinks they're a load of idiots. He needs to get the hell out of that team. Must be first choice for Mercedes should Hamilton retire.

Well done Max.

Utter domination by Red Bull.

Starting at the back you managed to avoid the mobile chicane that is Hamilton’s Mercedes.

Why is sky focusing on Max's wife beating / murdering dad? Bloke is a c*nt

Verstappen starts at P15 and wins with 18 secondes in front of his teammate Perez, who started P2.

RB miles ahead now of any other team. And with by far the best driver in one of their cars, normally F1 is over. Happily stranger things have happened like the last day of last season.

Fantastic atmosphere by the orange fans who hopefully behave for a change.

Hopefully next week will be a repeat of last year. Other teams need to do the work. No one is better than Verstappen unless they have a faster car.

Side note: KdB recognise the best sportsman in another category. I’m sure Verstappen, who supports PSV Eindhoven, feels that way about KdB.

I'm starting to think we are entering the Verstappen era of dominance.

They have the perfect combination in a supremely fast car, a team that makes the right tactical decisions in the race, a team that can effectively develop a car throughout the season and of course a gun driver in Verstappen.

Ferrari won't beat that combination. They're tactically inept, not as good at development plus there's some questions about Leclerc and performance under championship pressure.

Mercedes are the other obvious competitors but I think their drivers are too evenly matched and will take too many points off each other to beat Verstappen.

Makes you wonder if Merc need to sack Hamilton off and concentrate on the future with Russell. Have a recognised number 1 and get a whipping boy in the style of Bottas and Perez to be his wingman. It's just hard to know who that driver is. Maybe give Gasly a second chance in a top team?

It's looking fairly ominous for the rest of the field. 93 points ahead at this stage, unlikely he'll be reeled back in. That'll be back to back titles, and he's still only 24. If Red Bull keep their cars technically ahead of Ferrari and Mercedes, he could be at the top for another decade. Whether that'd be good or bad for the sport is open to debate.

Surely if Hamilton decides to retire (no way will they or should they dream of sacking him, what a mad thought!) the next thing that happens is LeClerc beating down their door desperate to get out of that bat shit mental Ferrari team.

Would be a good move for both parties, IF Hamilton goes.

I see him giving it another year though. If Mercedes are still struggling next season he’ll retire IMO. He’s not doing a Vettel/Alonso and joining a shit team just to make up the numbers.

Rule changes always shake things up. There’s no way he is dominating for a decade.

People always say this sort of thing and it never happens for that length of time.

He’s the next big thing for sure, just as Hamilton was and Vettel before him, and as Schumacher was before that.

F1 has always had its dominant front-runners, it’s nothing new really and always gets shaken up after a few years.

The way Verstappen won last year was a disgrace but he’ll fully deserve it this season. He’s been a class above.

I still expect Mercedes to be back with a bang next season. Especially with Audi entering in a couple of years (just an engine supplier my arse, I bet you anything it’ll end up being a full Audi works team, heavy rumours they’re buying Alfa/Sauber).

Great drive from Verstappen, made Perez look second rate.

Ferrari/Leclerc fucked up again at the end.
Perez bless him, is second rate.

It’s the model that works for RB. Always have a second driver they can just push around. Just like Ricciardo before him.

They learned their lesson a bit with Webber. Too strong a character, too good a driver and stood up to Vettel far too many times for the teams liking.

Why not? Hamilton won 6 titles in 8 years, and Schumacher won 7 in 11 years. Verstappen certainly has the natural talent to emulate those two. Whether RB stay at the top of the pile is anyone's guess, of course.
