Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post-Match Thread

Very sloppy at times

Strange not to bring on Alvarez ---take Bernardo off who was making things happen (and it might be about minutes/fitness etc) so no problem there but thats when you put on Alvarez to replace his energy and add goal threat...Mahrez didnt realy do much wrong bu he also didnt do much right either...a typical languid performance to match a lot of the other players.

Foden was poor today and could equally have come off.. along with KDB and Gundo

KDB had one of those games where he was trying to do everything himself and was almost stopping others from playing.

Villa showing what a small time bunch they are; they had an opportunity to win it and even at the end could have done but chose not to even try...time wasting by the keeper and celebrating it....bit pathetic and why they will go nowhere as they can only turn in that type of performance when against team thats at the top....everyone else they wilt against and they will struggle if they ever try to play football against anyone.....Think Gerrard is a couple of loses from the chop

They have become like Everton when we were first taken over and we took Lescott off them...their inbred supporters just cant get over that their fan boy decided to leave them for us and now they have it in for us. Im just surprised they werent trying to wave fake £50 notes at us like when we took Barry off them as well.....

Personally hope they go down...
Could you tell me one chance that Bernardo created in the entire match? I count 6 clear chances created by KDB, and he was the only olayer running forward...

1. Poor passing, especially in the first half.

2. Poor finishing.

3. Poor subs by Pep. Mahrez for Bernie, okay that's fine to give Mahrez minutes. Ake for Walker to go back 3 is fine, but leaving Foden on when he was playing poor was a bad idea. Should have 100% rewarded Alvarez' performance from last game and get him on, go 3-5-2 to play to our strikers.

4. Pep changing us from the last game was a bad idea, Walker and Cancelo played inverted for so long. What happened to the last game where Cancelo was wide, and Foden played inside. Foden looked so lost staying wide all game.
My opinion is Pep wants champions league for city, I believe his ego wants to bring the champions league for a legacy, so he isn't arsed about the league, that's my opinion And my opinion only, so can't be arsed with shitty comments back so save them

Pep fault that looks like he won't even play gomez especially when need a lb and drop alvarez for playing amazing last game but bring maherz on don't get him sometimes still second though
He's trying to please people rather than doing whats best for the game at hand. Classic.

Not sure what Pep is trying to do this season with the crazy system that is leaving us all over the show.

We could have lost against Newcastle, thank fuck we were 0-2 down against Palace at half time and he had to change it.

Not to be deterred,Pep was back again with it today, players all over the show misplaced pass after misplaced pass.

We are dropping points and it is all on him.

Surely he must see what we see.

Then the Subs today,Bernado for Mahrez,a Guy who Bottles out of every 50/50 playing in a physical game.

Alvarez is not a Bench warmer,he is a fucking good player,a match winner.

Disgrace he didn't get on that Pitch.

He starts with that System at home to Spurs we will be 3-0 down in indr 30 minutes.

I mean let's nip this one in the bud quickly before it becomes the official narrative. VAR had nothing to do with it and by the time Coutinho shot, our entire team had already stopped playing, making no effort to block or save it.
Agree with that. We did get away with a couple of yellows.

As others keep saying — this is just about every club’s Cup Final when we travel.

In 1H it seemed we had so much space between players — the passes we tried were so long both cross field and in the interior. Villa weren’t going for it and we weren’t very accurate. Much better in the 2H but still took a moment of magic and pretty poor keeping.

Also agree with all who thought Alvarez in for Foden — I expected it at HT and it never came.

But we’re very busy the next few weeks — I’m sure Pep has some type of rotation in mind.

Two dropped points. I couldn’t understand the move to a back three. We were the better side by far but they came up with a really good goal and nicked a point they didn’t really deserve.

It’s not. We have a £200k pw player who on merit doesn’t get anywhere near this fucking side. He should have been shipped out in the summer. Instead he gets a new contract and now we end up in situations like today.

Honestly, the collective wank-off on here when he got a new contract baffled the fuck out of me.
In the context of changing things up as Bernie wasn't doing much and Mahrez is the RW sub it makes sense.

He played poorly, but the idea to change it up is correct.

Pep's problem is that was the only attacking sub and Ake coming on for Walker was hardly useful as Walker could just play back 3 anyways.

Absolute shite result, bottled it. Haaland is amazing but some others need to take a hard look at themselves.

Good opportunity to take 3 points at Villa Park before they sack the useless ****, they will be a decent team once they got someone competent in. They were not decent today though, they were drilled but an absolute nothing team with no confidence on the ball and to concede tp them was a disgrace
