There’s no link at all between the two decisions - I agree that the Eriksen game should have been abandoned, but that has no bearing on the PL’s decision.

Personally I think that postponing the games is the right call and the correct way to honour the Queen’s passing. She’s done countless things for us, and improved our country’s standing in the world no end, so we shouldn’t just pretend that it’s a normal weekend, because it isn’t.
But those people that don’t see it as a normal weekend will still be able to do the things that don’t make it a normal weekend with or without football being played. That’s the point. It’s a normal weekend for more people than it’s an abnormal one. Literally most people in the country will be doing what they normally do, because life has to go on. Oh… except anyone that likes to watch football. They won’t be doing what they normally do.

For most people, it absolutely is.

If you want to mourn, grieve, watch endless royal documentaries that's fine.

But most people will be doing their normal activities. Except when we're not allowed, like watching the footie it seems. Or even playing footie, mate at work days they've cancelled junior football in their league(!) Competitive grief seems to be a thing.
Nobody is stopping them from turning up and playing a friendly.

you must be pretty annoyed and the multitude of other facets of society that will simply continue, with people paying their private respects as and when they want.

I think we shud be celebrating the queens life and not cancelling everything and being morbid, she was 96 and devoted her life to this country ,and its no shock she has passed away,i do think an opportunity of playing the football or sports ect,and belting out the national anthem around the country by millions would of been the perfect respect showed, and deserved, saying next weeks aswell by looks of it ,i think they got it wrong there personally

Read the thread and look on social media. The majority are going to treat this like a normal weekend. The decision from the PL only seems to have pleased a very small group of people (some of whom in this thread who don't go to games anyway).

How would things have been worse? Genuine question.

I don't know whether you've noticed but the country is on its arse. We're facing an economic blackhole, millions of hard-working (I mean actual hard work, not being chauffered around the country to wave at people) families are facing fuel poverty. The cost of essentials like food are sky-rocketing. We have a political class that treat us with unadulterated disdain.

But it's grand, because we're about to funnel tens more millions into a state funeral for someone that lived a life most could only dream of and be told for the next year that we should be thankful for such excess, because, you know, she's a stabilising figure. Or some other such bullshit.
How dare you? You ungrateful fuck! Do you know how hard it is to put on your costume and travel around the world just to wave at people? I would like to see you spend a day in their shoes.

wasting your time with chippy, he is a moron

Wolves potentially off as well :( absolute joke of a decision imo

Where will we fit these games into an already ridiculous season?

They need to fuck the international break off.
I can't see FIFA doing that, but even if the home countries cancel their international matches to play the cancelled league matches, what about our foreign players?

How do they get out of internationals? What if say our Portuguese/Spanish contingent insist they want to play for their countries? Can we say no & force them to play?

This season was already ridiculous because of the World Cup, but this will potentially fuck it for UK based clubs. Industrial scale madness! :-/

You wouldn't make it better by getting rid of the royal family. You're deluded if you think so. They cost the country fuck all, in fact they generate far more income for the country than they cost. And the Queen in particular has been a steadying, moderating influence for good. Things would be worse had we not had our Queen. Sad you cannot see that through your resentment and bitterness.
Absolutely true, well said.
