Chelsea-Liverpool, United-Leeds, Brighton-Palace all off, rest of the games on (pg 128)

EPL fixtures are canceled because the FA are shit scared a certain group of fans may boo the minutes silence and then they would have to do something about these w4nkers

It is a stupid decission and does nothing to actively involve people with the process of mourning the queen, all it has done is wind up people who have had to plan their day well before and put many out of pocket.

Stadiums and grounds across the country showing their respect would have been more fitting, if some wished not to attend and mourn privately then no one would have stopped them and I am sure the club(s) coyld have shown understanding and reimbursed their matchday fee.

Was there this level of hysteria when the Premier League has an international break?

I don’t recall this level of whining when the Premier League is put on hold for the international breaks. What about when the Premier League announced a break for the World Cup? I would be grateful if you would post a link for these threads
A lot more notice was given for those events.

A day of no football does cost something though. It costs millions of people the opportunity to spend some time enjoying themselves with friends and family.

It costs millions of kids - who have already lost two years of their lives during covid - the opportunity to play football with their mates.

People are talking about respect, when in actual fact depriving people of the opportunity to do something they enjoy and is extremely important in their lives, is one of the most selfish and inconsiderate acts possible.

There is no reason why the nation can’t mourn and millions of people can still enjoy their free time. These two things are not mutually exclusive.

This is an absolute joke of a decision.
I don’t agree with the cancellation of games but let’s not get all hyperbolic.

A bit of bad weather can get games called off and nobody loses their mind over that. We had a game called off against Mönchengladbach a few years ago that, by kick off time, would have been perfectly alright to play. It’s just one of those things, a rash decision has been made and it’s done now so sod it.

Millions of kids didn’t lose two years of their life, they weren’t all in a two year coma. All that happened is that they didn’t have to go to school for 23 weeks over a 60 week period and had to wash their hands more often. Lots of kids absolutely loved spending time with their family and it’s a time many families would never have got together otherwise.

I do agree that that the games should be going ahead and it would be good for the country for it to do so, but this time next month nobody is going to be arsed that games were called off in the sport across the country this weekend.

It’ll be forgotten about right up until we have to play 4 games in a week in April/May.

Of course footballs a different crowd

Did you hear the state of the Scouse cunts booing William and the National Anthem at Wembley.

The PL won’t want it’s brand damaged and the clubs won’t want their fans being the ones on the front of the papers for doing it.

saw a pretty good take on reddit about the prem cancellations - football matches suck up a lot of police presence and planning, its about the cops, they're needed elsewhere physically and the security planning and admin spent on observances instead - cricket and golf don't suck up nearly the security resources for instance, so can go ahead and play, shrug

The history books noted that football wasn’t stopped for King George VI or V, or Queen Victoria. Edward VII died after the season finished.

The precedent was set then. This is nonsense.
With all due respect, this is our greatest monarch. Elizabeth the Great. Not some tinpot Monarch from the past.

They are the biggest virtue signalling cunts from all the sports though it’s no surprise
It's a monumental period in our history. I think it's right there's no football this weekend, it's such a pivotal moment.

I understand those, who don't have an affinity for the royals, (I don't either) but it's the right thing to do. It's about priorities for a lot of people.

Football will carry on.
But when there is a (wholly exaggerated and unnecessary, in many people's minds) disruption to people's lives then there is inevitably a backlash in the form of a reduced sense of loss and respect which maybe otherwise would be there.

I understand this perspective but severe weather cancellation and this are not the same.

One is a reasonable measure to protect the public’s safety and is accepted as necessary by nearly all involved.

The other is an arbitrary measure that protects no one from anything, except perhaps the PL/FA from having to finally confront the behaviour of Liverpool supporters at Anfield.

But what purpose does it actually serve to postpone the games? Beyond some vague nonsense about 'respect' and it being 'the right thing to do', what's the actual practical, real-world purpose of postponing the games? I'm genuinely curious.
In a word, virtue signalling.
(I know it's two words btw, to save somebody the trouble of pointing it out)
