Ironically, placing the two decrees, fountain pens and ink wells on the table meant that the one thing you couldn’t do easily was sign the documents.

If I had carte blanche to reshape the constitution then I think I would abolish the monarchy, or at the very least make them wholly extraneous to the political process.

I think our political system is ineffectual, undemocratic and anachronistic and it would be intellectually dishonest of me to exclude the presence of a hereditary system within that equation, as it plainly is.

The stability that a monarchy has provided must also have contributed to the oscillation within our political system and institutions which has undoubtedly (imo) precipitated our decline as a nation. One only has to look at the pitiful quality of politicians across the political spectrum today compared to a generation ago to appreciate how stark that decline is.

The whole thing needs ripping up and starting again, and the position of a hereditary head of state has to be part of that process, as it has to be part of the problem. It’s difficult to argue otherwise.

I would agree but there has also been a decline in the IQ of the British voter that means, were the opportunity to arise to secure change, we would undoubtedly find a way of fucking it up.

There’s videos of Lizz Truss everywhere of her a few years ago saying the monarchy should be abolished and nobody born into power, now I’ve not watched anything bar Netflix and football for a long time so I don’t know what the news is showing but I’d wager the bbc aren’t showing this on a loop following her speech yesterday

Now let’s replace Truss with let’s say Trump and again I’m just guessing, but I think that might be different

I’m as far away from being a fan of Truss as possible but advocating looping her opinion as a 19 year old that she denounced fairly soon after would be equally bad reporting to be fair.
