The British Monarchy

Honestly, I do not know anyone's lives that are positively affected by the presence of the monarchy. Until yesterday, barely anyone I knew ever discussed it in a positive sense, or a negative one, yet now are filled with outpourings of grief and are desperate to change their social media photographs. As for The Queen, I feel sad for her family, who have lost someone they loved, but I cannot share that grief myself. For the people who profess the fantastic job she did, I have no idea of the quality of the job she did but I know that she was enormously well compensated for it - I have no negative feelings about that, she may have deserved it and she may not have done. She has raised four children: Charles is currently the subject of substantial allegations about cash for peerages, had an affair, and is a divorcee; Andrew is also a divorcee and has significant and heinous allegations against his character; Anne is a divorcee and Edward I know absolutely nothing about. Her children are not a symbol of what an amazing woman she was but if we look at ourselves, is she so different?

May she rest in peace and if you are genuinely affected by her passing, my sympathy is with you.
Where as i largely agree with most of that, you only have to look at the thousands that will line the streets for her to see her drive past. Thousands smiling broadly, waving flags, buzzing because they saw the queen. Now although i would say im a mild royalist (happy with the concept though needs reform and slimming down) i wouldnt travel too far to see her, but thousands do and it makes their day!

So whatever it is, and ive no idea, she brought total happiness to millions of people when they saw her. If you could bottle it youd make billions

Is getting a divorce a poor reflection on a mother? Oops say a sizeable portion of sons and daughters.

The passing of the Queen should be the end of the royal family.
People can keep saying it, and there have been vocal supporters of it for centuries, but it’s very unlikely to happen at this current time.

I’m no uber-fan of the monarchy, I never watch the weddings or join in much with the jubilee stuff that happens for example, but I feel it is part of the nation’s identity, the good AND the bad of it. I’m not sure what would be gained by abolishment outside of some cost savings and if people think that means more money in their pocket then they need to be less gullible.

And people will continue to say it. The finances are neither here nor there, as you say.

I think referenda have proven themselves to be not the best of ideas. If enough people felt strongly enough about it, one of the parties could include it in their manifesto at the next election and then we could see if they get into power on the basis of abolishment of the monarchy.
Referenda are ok if it's written in that any change is backed by a substantial majority - 70 or 75%. Westminster FC have had their arses well and truly bitten by the last one, and both Boris and Liz were quick to fuck off Wee Jimmy for another Scottish one. If it's just a simple majority - 50.1% - it can bring a right balls up down the driveway.

What an odd concept of democracy, 1 in 4 don't agree so we go with them.
