Even putting aside the human cost which they don't give a toss about, apparently the cost to the economy of mental health issues is estimated as at least 5% of GDP but is probably higher and is rising. There is a long established correlation between rising rates of mental distress and illness and neoliberal economics as practised in the UK, USA and Australia. For example, in Britain, apparently depression is the condition that is most treated by the NHS.

Or Putin, who apparently is in charge of our economy. If there is a change of course it will be because of lefty something or other.
I know what you mean, it's starting to get to me all this. This and the other clips played this morning are shocking.
Sound like a Chris Morris radio edit (yes, including the dark humour only this time it's genuine).
I have to echo some of the comments above about mental well being.
I'd only started to really get myself back on track after a few tough years and I've genuinely been upbeat until quite recently. My tools and techniques for counteracting low moods are being stretched quite severely.
The utter fuck have we been led into.
Haven't done the maths but I assume it would take 12-15% of Tory MPs to start voting in the interest of the broader population by siding with the opposition to stop the most egregious activities. That this is a pipe dream shows you what a complete number they have managed to do on the Tory party.Unfortunately, Rory Stewart has been expelled from the party.
Can’t think of any others.
Great post, by the way.
me that. except the Meghan and Trans bit, i don't care about either .I know a few well off, there mortgages paid off, all they have in life is to get angry about Migrants, Meghan and Transexuals
they will continue voting Tory
Labour's mess inherited, public idiotically voting for Brexit, COVID, war in Ukraine amd 15x gas energy price crisis* Yep these things have sure taken their toll.12 years in power.
You can almost here the marble dropping down .KerPlunk.
She read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Merton College, Oxford. They only let thickies in these days. It’s truly horrifying listening to this. I still for the life of me can’t comprehend that this imbecile is our PM.
She’s been locked away for two days practicing all of this, her advisors no doubt doing their absolute best to bring her spiel up to a minimum standard that wouldn’t prove utterly embarrassing. But once she gets past the prepared glibness, she collapses like a sack of shit and runs out of ideas against a local radio presenter.
The classic giveaway is the redundant references to the Bank of England being independent and “setting interest rates”, simply parroting what little knowledge she possesses, rather what’s relevant. You can just imagine her being handed a few simple facts condensed onto the back of a post it note, with any attempts to absorb anything more meaningful proving well beyond her.
She could have referenced the temporary nature of the BoE’s actions, the success in bringing gilt yields down, the medium term strategy that will be laid out for the public finances. Moreover, it was important to make a commitment to fiscal prudence with the markets listening intently. But the best she can come up is this. I despair.
If the Tories keep her in power for more than a few weeks, it will be one of the biggest acts of political self-harm on record (even bigger than electing her in the first place, that is).
This is utterly stupid. She knows there is no support for it but can’t even admit it.
it's almost as if she doesn't have a fucking scooby as to what she's talking about
Because when the rich want to get richer and there is a finite amount of money, they will squeeze every last drop out of us.
at least that would explain the long silences, but it's not because of that, it's because she's thick as fuck. she needs to be removed from office now.she sounds like there is a flunky next to her who gives her one page to read out and once she has read it out she hands it back then the flunky picks up the next sheet of A4 and hands it to her
Thank fuck for thatFWIW chaps, I think I am going to bow out of this thread. I am sure many of you will say good riddance.
But it's just too tiring and frankly a dirty great big waste of EVERYONE's time. I am not a massive supporter of the Tories, contrary to what many of you must think. Merely of most Tory idealogy and principles, like the state taking the minimum amount off money of people and not meddling with peoples' lives more than the absolute minimum.
I am certainly not saying the latest mini budget has been a huge success (only an idiot would say that, and I am not an idiot). It's been handled terribly badly by Truss and Kwasi whatever his name is. I've been critical of several aspects of it. But I do think the markets have grossly overreacted and I think everything will calm down in due course. Although he was hugely critical of how it was handled, Martin Lewis said this morning "who knows, it might work". I suspect he knows a thing or two than most on here.
Unfortunately, I am a lone voice here and it's just too tiring arguing with people; some informed, some intelligent and some morons with no fucking clue. The endless jibes from the latter group wore thin about 12 years ago.
There is absolutely fuck all any of you (or me) can do to change anything. So howl at the moon to your hearts' content if it makes you feel better - as I guess it must because you've spent 2,424 pages doing it.

I suppose in your head, none of this counts.
(And yes the wholesale price has gone up 1,500% in the past year or so - I didn't believe it either)
FWIW chaps, I think I am going to bow out of this thread. I am sure many of you will say good riddance.

Hope you use this time to retink your politics.FWIW chaps, I think I am going to bow out of this thread. I am sure many of you will say good riddance.
