The Conservative Party

I have no idea on the impact of this, but anyone earning under 20k should pay 0 taxes on their earnings.

Give it a month and Hunt will be PM.

£ is up, markets are happy, he looks and sounds competent. His fundamental philosophy is the same as Kwarteng and Truss but he's smart enough to know when and where to implement it.
'He looks and sounds competent'
Looked as though he was reading from a scrap of paper to me and didn't come across well.
But is he competent in reality?
We don't know yet.
He is reacting to a cock up and so in reality he had no option but to do what he did.
Remember he has no treasury experience and screwed the NHS and was proposing Esther Mcvey as his deputy had he won the leadership contest!
Also politically he made three big foxes paws - more or less reverted to Labour's six month energy plan, failed to announce a popular windfall tax and failed to reverse the lifting of the bankers bonus cap.
Competent my arse.

Mr Jeremy ****.

As health secretary he commissioned a report to have a clear pandemic strategy then junked it because he said it wouldn't be value for money...

That speech was sucking the city of London cock not helping the people they are supposed to represent.

Think he was more interested in damaging Truss and positioning himself to take over than any long term economic thinking.

Nadine making a call for Boris to return. If only the Match Day Thread had such unwavering loyalty, the lot of a Moderator would be easier to bear.

Except that’s likely not true. It would be the death of the Tories, who’d be gone from the political landscape for decades, no doubt.
A social democratIc centre left coalition is exactly what’s needed and one that should be actively pursued by all parties that aren’t the Tories.
The big unknown in PR terms is how many more people would vote, as their vote would actually mean something, likely making things even worse for the Tories. What Labour should be focussing on is delivering for the country and that, for me at least, is keeping these shysters out of office for as long as possible!
Prior to the 2019 election, which was an anomaly for all the known reasons, 14 million voters were in seats that hadn’t changed hands since world war 2, while 11 Labour and 54 Conservative seats haven’t changed party hands in over a century. Clearly this is nonsensical and leads to a huge democratic deficit.

It would be the death of them both, which is why neither of them will back it.

I agree fully with the need for it, I just don’t see it happening for a while yet still.

It wouldn't need to be the death of either, they would just need to understand the new landscape and do politics in a less polarised and more conscillatory way.

Truss will be gone by the end of the week, PM questions will be brutal this week.
The only thing that Truss was holding onto was the help with energy costs, now this has been cut back she is a sitting goose.

It honestly wouldn't be a shock to see her go in the next 48 hours.

Would they do it before PMQ's?

It would be piss funny seeing Ange up against Coffrey.

These cunts shooting themselves in the foot is the only thing cheering me up after last night.

Hopefully it’s terminal sooner rather than later so we can get adults in to sort the mess out.

Truss needs to go. Not enough is being made of the fact that the UK has not had a functioning government since December 2019, some might argue earlier, and the fact is that this continued state of paralysis is only hurting the country further.

Nothing to do with Friday's events - its just that world wide economic conditions got much much worse over the weekend
