I think the polls of tory members at the time of the last leadership election had Mordaunt beating Sunak by more than Truss would, until she was KO'd in the final round.

You only had to look online the general feeling was that Sunak betrayed Johnson by resigning. If you read the comments under any Truss thread when she was running for PM it was full of people calling Sunak a back stabber. Its childish and frightening that people with that mentality made such a huge decision.
