Rishi Sunak

As in when it went to the membership, more mps that supported the other candidates backed Truss than Sunak. She ended up with more endorsements.

That may well be because they knew she was more likely to win the membership vote, however the erg were always going to be more aligned to Truss so it’s reasonable to assume she’d have had more anyway.
Was that ever formally recorded? EDIT: I see that Guido Fawkes had a spreadsheet - so you're right. The following bit does still apply I'd suggest:

I guess there's always the issue that she was so far ahead with the members, that it was a foregone conclusion as soon as it was her v Sunak. At that point, openly backing the guaranteed loser would have been a bit foolish (although in hindsight, very lucky!)

So the person who finished 2nd to LIz Truss in a leadership contest is going to lead the country. What on Earth could go wrong. We are an absolute laughing stock in world politics right now. The only good thing to be said is at least it gets rid of Truss & it isn't Johnson again.
To be honest - tory members are not the best judge of anything.

I would not go that far.

To be honest I had more concern re the tory system where 'members' got a vote. A member is anyone in the world willing to send them £25. That is seriously wrong and needs looking at. At least with MPs deciding they were elected and that is all we ever get to vote on.

There should be some minimum standard on these things - being an eligible voter would be a start.
To be fair to Tory MPs, they've shown that they have the power not the PM, which does back up the fact that the MPs have a mandate not a particular PM.

Although not sure that the voters in 2019 knew that.

It's entirely correct and democratic for a party leader to be chosen by it's members, if you pay your dues then that is your right, whether you should have to be a memeber for a certain time to stop mass membership runs to affect that vote is down to each partys constitution

The Prime minster, however, especially the third one in a parliaments life cylce shoypd be chosen by the nations not a group of self serving MPs

So; because of that, you don't want him to be a success. Fair enough, that's your call.
That’s not what I said and please don’t twist my comments to suit yours. I simply pointed out that he contributed to the dogs dinner we’re all tucking into; that shouldn’t be forgotten.

Good luck to the bloke. It's in everyone's interest that he does a good job trying to get the economy back on track.
Of course it is in everyone's interest for him to succeed, but he was Chancellor for two years previously, and has been complicit in the way the economy is now, so my confidence with him isn't high.

Agree with the former, but your latter point, what are his credentials? A rhetorical question as I find it bewildering that someone with so little experience can become PM and a sad indictment of the state of our politics since 2010.

Sunak’s credentials are *checks notes* yeah, I‘ve got nothing.

Look, if you want to convince yourself that she's a working class girl done good then go off. She grew up in a leafy Conservative suburb with a professor father and has being widely accused of misrepresenting her school by people locals and fellow alumini. She was the 29th British PM to have attended Oxford and Sunak is about to be the 30th.

I’ve no agenda other than calling out bollocks when I read it fella. She went to a state school and went to Oxford, good on her I say… like anyone who makes that same journey especially before selection positive discrimination was a thing. Shame you can’t see past your politics and accept her personal achievement for what it is. Curious you not mention her nurse mother if you mentioned her father however… perhaps it doesn’t quite fit your privileged lass agenda?

Still none of her education and career successes stopped her being an idiot of a PM.

Is there anything stopping Russia or China spending a good whack to choose British PM’s tho?

Surely they would have to be a verified and registered UK citizen?

Well he’s just been Chancellor for the last 2 years in the middle of the most difficult time in the modern era and overall saved millions of businesses and jobs, he predicted Truss’s “fairy tale” economics disaster and he’s polished and young.

Other than that there’s not much else.

But I’d rather we talked about his policies and what he’s going to do/done already than the fact he’s brown.

It doesn’t matter what is skin colour is.
