Wasn't his fault that he ended up being last man. Ake got under the ball and missed his header.

Still, should have just trusted Ederson and not got himself sent off.
Just watched it back on MotD.
Cancelo ends up a good yard or so behind the rest of the defensive line by following Wilson in - Ake missed the header, but far less culpable IMHO.
Joao is great going forward, but as Liverpool and today show a liability at times defensively. Just needs to switch on at times, and think about challenges

He needs resting. The irony is that he would likely have been first sub today with Gomez on, so at least the upside is that Cancelo got extra time off the pitch. The downside is that the other players again had to expend much more energy compensating for an early sending off from a makeshift left back, which is no coincidence.

He’s making more mistakes because he’s simply been asked to play too much, and that’s down to our inability to land an established left back in the summer. It’s a mistake that’s increasingly taking its toll on everyone.
Managed his own rest.

You're spot on, apologies!

Red card suspensions will continue to count across all competitions. Cancelo should miss vs Chelsea next Wednesday.

Only accumulated yellow card bans count in the specific competition.

Sorry again.
No need. As I typed it, I got less and less confident that it was true!

no just pl and domestic cup suspensions count "for all domestic competitions"

I think we have to accept Cancelo is excellent offensively, but defensively he is vulnerable and makes mistakes. We win most of our games and we get away with it but against the better teams we get punished eg Dippers away.
That beautiful side foot assist for Halland was a fair trade for the Liverpool mistake and today's daft decision. He's a great addition to the squad and on the whole gives more than he takes away.

He's took a risk on only getting a yellow and it's backfired. Needs to learn when not to take risks but we can't shackle him too much.

The whole reason he's so good for us is he's prepared to take a hell of a lot of risks and Pep has give him a license to do so. There's going to be more moments where he's fucked up probably more than any other player in our squad but you take them because he brings so much to this side. He's often our most creative player behind kdb, from fullback.

Rough with the smooth, he's comfortably the best left back in the world and I wouldn't swap him for anybody else. Take it on the chin, learn and let's see him make amends against Brentford.

He has an arrogance about him that's fine when he attacks but causes self-inflicted problems when defending. Classic examples were his "challenge" on Salah at Anfield and a carbon copy yesterday that could have had a similar outcome.

Clumsy challenge for the pen and red card, in those circumstances with an hour or more to play just let the attacker take the shot, at 1-1 with 11 men winning the match is much easier than with 10.

Personally don't think he's having a good season. A few Hollywood moments offensively are papering over an average season.
Need to invest in the fullback position in the Summer, would be quite happy if Cancelo converted to a winger.

Despite the claims of 'shoulder to shoulder' it was shoulder in the back. A penalty without doubt, But I wonder what Cancelo thought if he had seen an almost identical incident in the last Merseyside derby - Anthony Gordon through on goal, shoulder in his back, but a somewhat different outcome. No pen for Everton and no red card to sanction the penal offence! It's not only a funny game, but a fuckin' mysterious one, too!

And I've just looked up who the ref was in that EFC game, And I'm not making it up - it was the clown Attwell who was in the VAR shed for our game yesterday!

He's given up pens before like this but I think Dias was behind him so he wasn't sent off.

However as the last man and denying a goal scoring opportunity its better to trust Ederson than do a "tactical foul".

Pep will give him a bit of a refresher course on when to not make risky challenges. Just hope it sticks in his memory long term!

He's very similar to Ederson in a way, brilliant yet casual, and wouldn't be anywhere near as effective playing as an orthodox defender in a lesser team, and especially one that doesnt play our system/possession based football.

Hopefully Wilson Esbrand and Lewis continue their trajectory, two 'proper' fullbacks.

Agree. He has some standout games but we haven’t been great recently going forward and his drop in form is one of the reasons.
