Just one of those games where Pep couldn't be arsed to change anything, get the ball to a wide player ping the ball in to the box and hope Erling can get a header in, repeat x 50. Wtf has happened to our style of play, nothing comes through the middle anymore, so infuriating.

This could have been any game from 16/17 season, Pep struggled with his set up from the very start and he did nothing to change it. Long and high balls were killing us, we just don't have control we used to have and we are just allowing too many shots and chances each game. Every time camera was on Pep he was doing his usual 'play wide, stretch the pitch', but there was no overlapping, no overloading, nothing at all. Haaaland when getting chances is lethal, but when squeezed like today and with barely any movement, makes us playing with a player down. We barely press, we are not even close being efficient closing passing lines and MF positioning looks fucked up. Is it caused by Haaland being up front instead of Jesus and Sterling when in defending phase, Lillo leaving, I have no clue? But Pep has some times to think about it and good luck trying to get it through to the players desiccated after the WC. Really poor attitude and this tactical approach finally caught with us, just another of too many games when we tried to play only one half or coming from behind . The scary thing is that apart from Liverpool, we didn't play any really strong team and it is going to be fun watching us in 2023.

That's because of their packed well drilled defence. They did a number on us and as I said could have scored more. For their budget they played the perfect game.

I get that and agree with you. I just don’t think a packed well-drilled defence should be called anti-football.

If a team turns up and does nothing but defend, then fair enough. But Brentford was better than us in both a defensive and attacking sense today.

nearly 30 chances to 8 75% possession to 25% but they deserved the win lol

If Var was doing the job correctly we would have had two pens on top,whether we score from them is a different thing but Brentford do not deserve praise for that kind of win.

They had two or three clear chances in the first 5 minutes before we even started playing. Deserved win for them and a disappointing performance all round for us. After the World Cup it will all be forgotten and current form will be out of the window. The break has come at a good time for us as we’ve not looked at our best for a while. A result like this was coming.

Probably De Bryune’s worst game in a City shirt today he was awful

As was Foden, Gundogan, Cancelo, Haaland, Rodri & Bernardo. Very iffy performances today. Bernie totally anonymous wide right, he was better 2nd half though. Too many wrong decisions in attack today. Countless opportunities to play the ball into the box, but we didn’t take them. Instead we passed/pissed about. When we did play it into the box, the balls were under hit, over hit or blocked by the first defender. That last 20 was crying out for Grealish running at them. Strange substitution too, ending up with Phil at left back? Great opportunity for Gundogan that he blazed over with the goal gaping. Gundogan was woeful in front of goal today. Brentford did a number on us, horrible to watch but effective. The tone of the game was set from the kick off, we were very slow to start and Brentford capitalised and seized the initiative. Brentford’s big hoof repeatedly caused problems and we never really looked comfortable. Very disappointed today. Was the ref correct with the penalty shouts?
