Brentford (H) | Post-Match Thread

Happy Birthday Saddeworth ...My 73rd today .Typical City . Got to go out for a meal with the family and appear happy,
Thank you. And the same to you Nelly. So I cooked a steak on the BBQ and cracked open a very good bottle of red. I am over it. Shit happens. Hope you enjoy your meal and the rest of your Birthday mate.

It's not just the pace of individual players though is it? It's the pace with which we move the ball forwards. At times we spend eons moving the ball from side to side with the centre backs before passing it back to Eddie and the whole process begins again. Even when presented with opportunity of a break we do this. It is easy for teams to all get back and set up like this, they don't even have to be particularly athletic.
Apologies, I posted basically your post without reading!

Still not that worried in terms of the title. When going toe to toe with Liverpool there was virtually no margin for error, but I still think this Arsenal team will drop a fair few points themselves. They’re a good side, but certainly not a great one yet.

Bad day at the office, however we have won 16 out of the last 17 home games so all not bad and no need to panic. The run had to come to an end sometime. Brentford up for it from the start we weren't. On the chances they created they deserved the win.
Hopefully the team come back in 6 weeks time hungry and focused on retaining the title.

A few observations from Leicester, Fulham, Brentford games
- we are really struggling to break down 5 man defence.
- this tactic will be more common the more it succeeds. it clearly nullifies Haaland.
- no point in constantly playing though the middle, need more width, overlapping wide.
- bernado is wasted/ineffective on right. Always cuts inside, as does Cancello on left.Bernado central midfield, DeBruyne on right.
- more threat needed on right. I would have tempted to bring on Lewis today.
- transition from defence to attack far too slow. In fairness to Brentford they didn’t just sit back like Leicester, Rodri and Gundogan are so slow breaking forward.
- finally, controversiall, are we too focussed on getting the ball to Haaland, making us predictable and more rigid than false nine days.

Same was said about Leicester the season they won the title.

So on Wednesday most of the forum where bemoaning the fact grealish and mahrez where playing against Chelsea. Yet now because pep didn’t take off gundogan and foden (who just scored an unbelievable equaliser) at half time he is in the wrong.

This place is mental after a bad result. We where up against a 5 at the back so we needed width to stretch the pitch. Unfortunately due to injury (as well as neglect in transfer window) we only have one senior fit full back.

The players didn’t turn up, they clearly had the World Cup on their minds (which is a career highlight for most players). It’s that simple.
It’s not that simple they cheated the fans today who spend a lot of money. It’s not about getting beat, it’s the selfish attitude of the players in not making any effort due to the World Cup.

Three way tie between City, the ref and VAR for who was the most shite. Brentford were better.
The ref today was diabolical - as was the ref for the Fulham game. The VAR mob have the Sky and BT broadcasts on in the room. It's wrong - Sky/BT can influence VAR.

Brentford had early chances and were dangerous - Eddie earned his money. We were nowhere near our best and messed up our chances and for some reason kept playing the ball into the space behind Erling and not for him to run onto. But we were the better team, just not at capacity today. Crackpot scheduling of the World Cup had an effect. Just hope our players don't come home knackered.

Not much to be said that all ready hasn’t been said. However I think some of the posts questioning pep and his knowledge/tactics are very far off. Also I’m not keen on people questioning the squads mental state and the such like.

I think this sort of result has been coming for a while. It’s how we deal with it that will show our metal.

I also think and have said for ages that our squad it very unbalanced and lacks pace. That little bit of trickery and burst of pace outside. Running at full backs and getting to the by line. We just don’t have that sort of option. We really need a full back and a bit of pace and trickery out wide.

Hopefully pep will have a few weeks to ponder how to work this all out.

There is a lot of work to do if we are to win the league this season.

Cancelo, Akanji and de bruyne were all awful today.
Haaland didn't look fit and had no service.

Don't think we won a header all day.
Haaland didn't win any headers because the cross was always about 2 foot above his fucking head. I cant think of ine cross that he could have headed but didn't. All the crosses today Into the box were shit.

Could not agree with this more. It’s been so long since we had a decent left back I can’t remember what it feels like. I know we did try last window for Cucurella but Brighton valued him well beyond his worth. I note that he looks bang average at Chelsea so maybe that’s an indication of the dearth of decent lbs. Brighton thought they had us over a barrel with no plan B. They might have been right. I don’t regret not going deeper for Cucurella because I didn’t and don’t think he’s good enough but our scouts should have identified a left back over the last 5 years. To just sigh Gomez is inadequate in my view and the signing of Akangi demonstrates that money was available.

so true, I am calling for a new full back or 2 but not many around, unless we pay over the odds and that is why selling a defender would be a good option, also why not give the 2 young full backs a really good go and what had we to lose today, I think they would have run themselves into the ground for Manchester city today

Can some statto please let me know the ball in play time. They had 16 goal kicks, so thats 20 minutes taken off. Genuinely curious.

Its not that difficult,he picked the wrong starting 11 and, despite the fact every long suffering City fan knew what was coming.....he did fuck all to rectify it.

I'm as p****d off as anyone here, however let's look at it, we lost, and guess what? We will lose again.. But so will others..let's see how this shambles world Cup pans out and how our players return hopefully we can put a run together
