2022 World Cup Discussion

There is nothing to be worried about in this competition,England are more than capable with the right line up of winning it.

The problem is the clown in charge, unfortunately he will ruin any chance of success as he just doesn't have the necessaries to pull it off.

See you next Tuesday,Southgate.

Oh stop it. The BBC can show what they want, when they want. But they can't tell me they couldn't re-programme with 3 months notice if they had wanted to. They chose not to show it and that's fine. Just bloody say it.

You seem to think that anyone discussing this is raging about missing the OC. I have never watched one to my recollection and I didn't watch this one either over here. It's the paper-thin and ever-changing justifications that get on my wick. Which is where Neville comes into the discussion.
I believe that people moaning about the opening ceremony are milking their outrage, yes, as you’ve eluded to in your reply there.

The people employed to make decisions for the BBC decided that they weren’t going to show the ceremony live on BBC1. They will have been aware of what viewing numbers similar ceremonies have brought in over the years and made their choice accordingly.

Whoever thinks that that is the wrong decision are probably welcome to write to points of view.

It‘s hardly something to get worked up about.

It seems personal from Southgate. There are no reports of an injury to Foden. You have to therefore assume that Foden is fit. Foden and Grealish were good from the bench against Iran. Rashford too, to be fair. Grealish had another good game when he came on against USA (Rashford less so).

You could name a number of starters who have underperformed, so you might expect there to to be a few changes for the Wales game.

My worry though, is that Southgate will continue to pick his favourites, but this mentality will not win the World Cup.

Mount has done very little in two games now. In fact, he has made plenty of mistakes. Surely, he can't continue to be a starter based on his reputation.

Trippier hasn't impressed and maybe should be replaced by Walker.

Maguire has been quite good really. He won lots of headers against USA, and without him, they would have had many more scoring opportunities. Could be carnage if he faces Mbappe though.

Rice does a job breaking up opposition play. If he moves clubs, I hope it's to Liverpool, because he seems to lack creativity.

Saka shows alarming lack of technical ability, and I've not seen him beat a man yet. He has scored though, so maybe persist.

Sterling hasn't done anything of note.

I think I would be looking to play Foden, Grealish, Rashford and / or Wilson, for Sterling, Mount, Saka. Walker for Trippier.
The crazy thing for me is that Southgate didn’t use Foden as he doesn't play centrally for his club, 5 days after using Foden as a sub for Mount in a central role.

Just watched the same & he is absolutely spot on, him and Carragher have pretty much said the same thing, and just listened to the waistcoat & can’t believe he’s actually said (as an excuse) Phil doesn’t play in the midfield 3 for his club! Wtf has that got to do with anything? Does Kyle Walker play right side in a 3 ? Does Rashford play RW ? Is Kane a midfielder ? Fact of the matter is we played 4-2-3-1 last night and Foden is a better number 10 than anyone else in the squad, he’s also quoted Rashfords pace, Jacks ball carrying and Mounts work rate (in mitigation) having watched Phil close up for a number of years I can honestly say he carries all three of those characteristics, I’m not sure the other three do

Something in Southgates excuse did not add up. For any other top team in World football he would be a nailed on starter.

The question is does he now bow to media and pundit pressure and drop either Stirling or Sako, or do a U turn and play him elsewhere. Or stick to his guns and say Wales is not a game for Phil.

Embarrassing

A bunch of grown men doing that

Not a single one of them looked like they could fight sleep either. The things alcohol makes people do eh..
It's a different brew when mixed with Columbian marching Powder

I think its becoming clear that southgate just doesnt like him. Whether its because he has stripes in his hair or lingering resentment from the iceland escapade. It cant be based on ability.

It seems to be personal

He did start him in the opening game of the Euros and that was after the Icelandic tarts being in the hotel, so I’m not sure it’s that, but it must be something

Cant see him starting phil after all the clamour. should see him as a sub this time though unless its 0-0 after 60 mins.

He’s not a winger and not a proper 8/10.

Therefore Southgate struggles to get the best out of him.
