FA confirm Southgate will stay on until after Euro 2024 (p 101)

Who would replace him?

A better manager would no doubt have landed us either the Euros or a place in one of the finals in 2018 and 2022.

If he stays on, it’ll be interesting to see how long he keeps his favourites in, with some of their club form dire and age against them.

Thought we made a good show of ourselves yesterday.

No shame at all in being knocked out by France.

That ref was league 2 level at best.

Even if Southgate does bow out now, he’s done us proud, as have Harry and the lads.

(Apart from the scousers and rags. You let our country down you cunts.)

It doesn't but the FA have been down the overseas manager route before, and it didn't really get us to far. And the FA criteria for a manager doesn't always have winning as it's No1 priority, they have to be seen as an ambassador in the role as well as winning .

Capello was a stupid appointment but Sven did alright didn’t he?

Why does it have to be an Englishman?

Obviously it doesn’t have to be. As has been proved twice in the past. But I personally, and I know I’m not alone, feel it’s an admission of failure before you start if you can’t find a single suitable candidate from your home country and are forced to look abroad.

Sick of this turd polishing for Southgate. The only reason England lost was because of him. He probably had the best squad in the tournament. Why on earth you would pick player's who have been useless for their own teams. Not just the rags magliar, Shaw and Rashford who can't catch at the swamp. Saka, Mount and Rice goodness me.

As a neutral watching last nights match I thought the ref wasnt that bad. He got the normal couple of things wrong but i didnt think he was biased. As for Southgate, his record as England manager is much better than those who've come before him, plus, who would you replace him with who would be any better?

Klopp. Just imagine the fitness levels and the press.

I hope he stays.

We were knocked out by the best team in the tournament and will almost certainly win it. We were let down by a referee who was plainly out of his depth and who put in a performance as bad as I've ever seen.

Under Southgate we've got to the WC semis and quarters and a Euros final. It's the best record since Sir Alf Ramsey, without question. The squad seem happy and have gelled and that's something we've not had for a while.

I thought the game could've gone either way yesterday and who else should've taken that penalty? I'd have still picked Kane and if we'd scored who knows what would've happened as we were the better team second half.

I think we are probably one of the best 8 teams in the world, were not as good as France it Brazil or probably Portugal and two of those teams are out. That's the world cup for you!

I don't see any obvious reason to change if I'm honest he's doing a decent job and that DOES NOT MEAN I want him at City.

I've heard every world cup how we've got the best squad ever etc, but some teams are just better and France are. No shame in that at all.

I very much doubt the next manager will be English.

Potter is just getting his feet under the table at Chelsea and I think Howe would be very reluctant to leave Newcastle with all what's going on there.

Gerrard? Lampard? No chance

There are rumours Tuchel and Pochettino are being sounded out by The FA

You didn’t think he was bad ????? He was fooking shocking him needing to go to VAR sums him up for how bad he was ............ as for Southgate we have a group of young players that should be hitting there peaks within the next few years would you trust him to get the best out of them ???? Picking out of form players for fun getting it tactically wrong time after time .......... he’s had 3 tournaments now time for him to do the right thing and leave ........... the longer he’s there the more missed opportunities there will be

Which is why, even though I’m no huge fan, I’d probably stick with Southgate for now. Howe almost certainly wouldn’t be interested. And he’s the only one I’d even consider might be an upgrade.

Even all the African countries have realised that a home manager, even a limited one, is a better bet than a foreigner with no connection to the country, just there for a nice payday.

England has some very, very good players who, I believe, are more than capable of winning a major tournament. Unfortunately the waistcoat is not the man to get the best out of them. His team selection fail to inspire and his substitutions are sometimes a mystery. Our best midfielder, Foden, was hardly in the game and had, often, to go looking for the ball and get involved; the player who looked to be causing the French most distress, Saka, was taken off. They just do not appear to gel as a team.
