Never a midfielder at this level needs to play wide and with mahrez playing reserve RW a loan abroad could do wonders…. ?

Funny old game.
Some say he had a quit game, some say second half was better.
I think he was better in the first half.
Anyway, a really good game for Cole.

He’s not a CM, he should be playing in his natural position which is RW.
He probably would have chalked up a few games in his favourite position, but the poor form of Mahrez led to Pep having to try and play Mahrez back into form.

This then meant that Cole has been shuffled into midfield to accommodate Mahrez.

Having said that, I enjoyed Cole’s game last night. He pressed very well, tracked back to help defend, and almost scored from a darting run into the box.

The ability is still there. It’s just a shame he can’t get a run of a couple of games on the right.

I think Cole is better in the middle, think the 100-point season Pep used Bernando in the middle who was naturally a RW but then Bernando or Sterling/Mahrez would change positions throughout the game so for fullbacks, it caused a massive problem. Plus for his height and build Cole has a lot of strength which I didn't expect. Also with Cole, he has wicked shot on him very good talent to have.

Doesn't Pep move players around a bit when they're coming through just to help their development. Pretty sure Foden got shifted everywhere across the front five at various points when he was breaking in. Not a bad footballing lesson for him the other night regardless.

He won't be playing central midfield for us in the future when he's a mainstay. Pep will just be getting minutes into him and making him learn a few things by playing him centrally. Simple as that really.

Remember Foden at left back? McAtee at left back? It's all pretty common and likely just part of his development period.

Can't wait to see him get a fair whack on the wing.

He doesn't look as promising as Foden did when he was breaking into the first team, but he's definitely got the potential to be a very good squad player for us. He is racking up the minutes and with the world cup, you'd imagine he's got a fair amount of game time ahead of him.

Let's see what Pep does with him. I trust that he'll develop Cole into the best player he can be.

somebody put up a series of CP clips which focus on his positioning and movement, both off/def -
my takeaway is that he looks like a student doing well in a high level classroom ...

Needs to bulk up, which he undoubtedly will; that will afford him more strings to the bow as he’s conscious of directness currently against seasoned pros; that confidence will only grow with time I guess

Special talent though who, like Foden, will have the best coach in football at his disposal to improve

Very good tonight I thought, even if left wing isn’t his best position.

Agree, he ran Milner ragged especially he was a little indecisive at times but no slate at all he was still impressive on the left and it's all part of the learning curve, very obviously Pep's plan to take Cole out of his comfort zone by sticking him on the left, it'll improve his versatility and confidence in the final third whether right left or centre which will bode very well for us in the future.

1st half he was very good.

I liked the fact that he was willing to take the ball and attack the full back. Far too often our wide men take the safe/easy option. A couple of times in the past against Liverpool we have seen Milner at RB on the team-sheet and thought our wide left man would run riot, only to see them consistently slow the game down and pass backwards. Palmer had Milner on toast.

He's very very clearly a winger and not a central midfielder. Thought he was excellent 1st half, things didn't quite go for him, that miss and a few passes lacking the care but it was a breath of fresh air to see him going at Milner instead of turning back and playing the simple pass. Can be very happy with that performance.

Was superb 1st half.. agressive going forward and didn't look for safe options. Shame about missing the sitter but very promising performance
