From BDP Pattern

Expansion proposal for Etihad Stadium that retains the essence of the original.

This Pattern proposal brought together the expertise of the original design team (including Pattern Director Dipesh Patel) to expand the existing Etihad stadium to a capacity of 80,000.
Based on the simple idea that any expansion should respect the original design, the scheme proposed a larger upper tier, saddle-bowl geometry, increased hospitality offer, and a cable-net roof that would allow continuous operation of the stadium.

The design is very much dated and nothing like what we ultimate went with. Looking at the South Stand, it’s somehow using the old roof supports rather than the newer triangle structures which ultimately went up to provide independent support.

The sides are also using the spirals and masts for a new roof support. Not sure how we’d get rid of the old roof and then throw an even higher roof up using the same supports without the stand being totally uncovered for a season.

This ‘plan’ is very much a design for looks rather than anything logical it would seem, although it’s interesting to see how the outside of the stadium could evolve in future.

Per match?

Was it circa 1200 seats taken out? Stand corrected.

Times that by what City are charging now for match day tickets.

The digital boards were there before, albeit smaller. So sponsors and advertisers are paying more now because the boards are bigger and brighter?
Those new boards are incredibly effective, I would think the club make a fortune from them, if not they would not have been installed.

They are. I'm not disputing that.

And they probably do bring more revenue in per match. Probably not much more than 1100/1200(?) City fans, food, drink, merch, etc.

My point is, which I'm sure you got, it would be better and good of the club to reinstall those 1100/1200 seats so more City fans can watch City and Haaland from next season onwards for 2 seasons until the North Stand expansion has been completed.

agree totally but clubs don't think like that sadly. Always the balance sheet.

Wouldn’t there be a problem fitting in an athletics track? That was the reason the NS was a temporary stand originally.
No it was much bigger 80k capacity There was a suggestion that the rags would move in after the games
