Some of our signings have been bizarre. Phillips is one of them.
i dont think it is i think well see the benefit of phillips when hes playing with kdb and bernie infront of him and hes been awared the same amount of time that we awarded rodri who also recieved critism. i do think hell come great for us

we really needed a midfielder who could fit in straight away. Like an Akanji for the midfield.

Not another player who will take a year or two to fit in.

but the issue is how often does that actually happen in our team. rodri himself took a season akanji and dias are the exceptions to the rule

Im hoping its fitness, but christ he was slow. I mean really really slow.
i think its match fitness personally. its his first start in 8 months, i feel like hes got a few fitness levels to go up you dont get in the bielsa midfield if you couldnt run.

I take on board the points people make about match sharpness and match fitness taking time to come back but even allowing for that he just seemed to stroll around the park tonight showing no urgency. To the cynic it looked as though he had the mindset of one who thinks he’s made it.

I’d much sooner we’d bought Doug Luiz back to fill this role but we didn’t so I guess we’ll have to hope Phillips comes good.

Is this as much do to with simply not good enough as it is about rustiness?
i think its more rustiness if im honest they guy hasnt started a league game because of injury ect since may last year. i feel like anyone would be rusty and shouldnt be judged.

Too early in his already injury ravaged City career to judge as we’ve all been guilty of lacking patience in most of our players first seasons, but one thing that stood out for me was the last game near the end he did a Trent Darby and let the wide player jog past him without even attempting to break into a run to catch him, and he’d only been on the pitch about 10 minutes if I remember correctly. I’ve never seen a player do that before the dipper did it this season.

True, but I am genuinely not sure he is good enough, even for a squad role, time will tell but unless he gets his head together and contributes for me he will be gone in the summer.

We are starting to collect far too many passengers in this squad.

One thing he is absolutely brilliant at is admiring his passing - doesn’t matter if it’s 5 yards or 50 yards. He stands still for a second after passing and that can’t be done in the most important position of a possession-based team. That’s not rustiness, that’s a trait to his game that needs fucking off.

It’s his first game, I think he’ll still be a good signing for us but he needs to stop being stationary and especially needs to stop hiding behind players instead of showing for the ball. I thought he was brave on it, that was the whole point of him coming in.

When Rodri came on, you could see the difference immediately but he is one of the best in world in that position so a bit unfair to compare right now.

You're trying too hard to press a faulty narrative. You're entitled to your opinion but it's mainly falling on deaf ears.
Hahaha I hate to be proved right but how do you feel now? Phillips does not fit our system and isn't good enough.

Agreed. Needs to be more mobile after his pass so as to give the defenders more angles and to pull opponent players out of position.
