Metrolink to / from Etihad

Going to have to use the tram on Friday from Media City.Dreading it.
Is there one straight to the Etihad on match day.
That is exactly the best place to get one from, you'll be fine and have a choice of seats
Madness that 70% of our fanbase is from the south of the city and we all have to join the mob crush at Cornbrook

Had to get one from dane rd back to alty, at sale now and already full...

Fucking shocking service. I bought a ticket and waited for the first one with all the parents with kids and prams. No chance of getting on so half of them crossed the bridge to the other side and did what you did. I went home and got the car. They owe me £4.30.

yes, certainly at exchange quay, it's touch and go whether you get on, should imagine be sound at media city.
Right, with you. I generally get on at Exchange Quay for weekend games and get a seat virtually every time, but use Alty line for midweek matches (never get a seat lol).

haha, the crush is real my friend, usually the one around 5:10-15 is a double get a seat, then it'll probably be rammed come piccadilly!

You can’t expect the club to sort out problems with public transport! The council chose the site of our stadium, designed the transport infrastructure, and gets all the government funding and statutory powers to run it.

All the club can do is say to them that they’d like a better setup, but in that the club is in the same position as the rest of us.
No you can not expect them to sort out Metrolink, but they could put pressure on that organisation and the council.

At Timperley, Brooklands, Sale, Dane Road and Stretford hundreds were left on the platforms as the single units were already overfull. It is irresponsible of Metrolink and frankly downright dangerous.

Chinese New Year and a City home match and we get a 12 minute service with single units, would it happen to the Rags? No it fucking well wouldn’t.

Do Metrolink run single trams on the Altrincham line when the Rags are at home?
And do they run as infrequently as they do for City home games ie do Rag fans wait on the platform at the Cricket ground for 25 mins for a tram?
I know you are being sarcastic, the Rag Fuckers get a much better service as you will be well aware.

Response to my complaint to TfGM:

Thank you for contacting Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM).

Firstly, I am extremely sorry to learn of the experience you have described whilst travelling on the Metrolink network on 22 January. I acknowledge and appreciate your comments regarding the increased footfall on the network yesterday given the matchday event at the Etihad Stadium and the events taking place in the City Centre in relation to Chinese New Year celebrations.

I can assure you both TfGM and the tram operator, Keolis Amey Metrolink (KAM) appreciate the importance of ensuring that services are reliable and provide sufficient capacity for passengers. I can also assure you ensuring all of our passengers can access the Metrolink network and travel safely onboard services remains a key priority.

For special events, including football matches, KAM develop event service patterns that exceed the usual service pattern to increase capacity. We run as many doubles as we can across the network. However, it would appear that for services on 22 January, the service pattern did not provide adequate capacity for passengers travelling around the region. With this in mind, I have passed your comments onto KAM for further investigation around services yesterday to establish any issues that were experienced service patterns.

I apologise again for the disruption you experienced on the network and I trust the above provides a useful update.

If we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to reply to this email.

Kind regards

I worked at KAM at a fairly high level on an interim basis for six months back in 2018. Can’t mention my role as it’d give it away.

Let me tell you, the people I worked with didn’t give one solitary shit about this long-standing issue, and a couple of colleagues even threw in the predictable Emptyhad jokes, claiming it made no difference if the trams were running or not when City are at home.

And those colleagues were directly involved in the planning side of things.

I can’t comment on what the culture at KAM is like now. I’ve not been there for 5 years. But it mightily fucked me off back then.

Interesting feedbck and I suspect nothing has changed for the better. You had to be there on Sunday to witness just how bad things were. Parents taking families to see the Chinese New Year festivities could not believe how awful it was.

It was so bad I couldn’t even get my phone out to get a photo and document it.

Says it all!

The service to the Etihad pre-game and especially post-game has been nowhere near good enough ever since the Met line went out there.

Regularly, once one Met goes from the Etihad to Town after the game and you get yourself on the platform, it’s a 25 minute wait for the next Met to turn up. Twenty five fucking minutes. You don’t have to wait that long for a Met anywhere else on the service at any other time on any other day, other than post-match City games. Even in the arse end of nowhere in Shaw, you’d see a more frequent service on a Tuesday afternoon than we get post-game at the Etihad. It’s an utterly dreadful service!

Plus it can be pissing down n’all during that wait with everyone getting piss wet through on the platform with pitiful efforts at overhead cover. Then when the Met finally arrives you’re squeezing on very dangerously with far too many other people.

They're an accident waiting to happen those post-match Mets!

The overhead covers got mixed up in the post - Seville got ours

When it is up to the end user (the fans) to point out Metrolink’s failings and shortcomings then things have gone too far,

The MEN, the Council, the useless Lord Mayor and whisper it the Club should have been all over this some considerable time ago.

The service provided by Metrolink on a match day is simply not good enough, they should be ashamed of themselves.
