I've never understood these analogies. There's probably a Maddison in every La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga team. He's a good player, nothing special at all. Suggesting he is anywhere close to KDB or Bernardo is delusional. Getting him in place of Bellingham will make me feel sick. The squad is in transition and needs injections of world class quality; Maddison doesn't fit this bill, he's average.

We can do better for fucks sake. I said the same about Phillips and I'll maintain this view on Maddison.

Yep, very much agree on Phillips. That was £40m pissed away but that amount is recoverable if sold, I hope!

Maddison does offer some qualities with clever passing and good dead balls. He certainly doesn't offer box to box, he cannot really tackle nor dribble, so I'm head scratching as to how he'd be anything other than a squad player when he's at best average at most things.

Maddison is a really good player who should have started at the wc for England, he was on fire going into the tournament. Chilwell is also good but I wouldn't go anywhere near him with his injury record.

It was always going to be difficult to replace Kdb , which is gonna be foden dropped into midfield, but he’s prem proven adds goals and assist,great at set pieces. There is a attitude problem there but that’s the risk

You can criticise the club, it is allowed.

Grealish is a league winner yes but he hasn't been the pivotal part of it which is disappointing. Certainly hasn't lived up to expectations.

Which is why I thought we would go a different direction than going for mediocre to decent English players.

Of course, and I do/will, but if that’s our business and we retain the current squad, with Teeth leaving permanently, I would say that freshens it all up ready for next season. I don’t think would be an issue if Silva left either to be fair.

If Maddison comes in, he'd be competing against KDB, Grealish, Alvarez and Mahrez for two spots

It’s not about the tactics or the individual players you Lemon, it’s about the needy immaturity of thinking anyone bough from a club lower down the league isn’t good enough, and constantly demanding the club buys the latest 22 year old from the continent that you’ve never actually seen play, but he’s got great potential on FIFA and Football manager and everything he does gets clipped for social media.

Let the best manager this club will ever have buy and sell the players he wants to, and stop spending so much energy getting worked up over if Grealish cost £20m too much of someone else’s money.

You're forgetting Fabinho in the middle and helped out by Mane and Firmino.

But yeah I would say we could still do better than mediocre English players.

People said this about Grealish. Turns out that everyone who was creaming themselves back when we signed him bought into the hype a little too much.

He's a good player but he's never realistically going to be the same level as Kev, David, Gundo, Bernardo, Yaya etc and rightly or wrongly, that's the level our fans have gotten used to. Those are players befitting of a club wanting to be the best in the world.

I can only speak for myself but it's got nothing to do with nationality, it just seems a step down from the peaks of aging players rather than a top up of the standard I expect.

people need to use their eyes ,we don't play with fullbacks ,and haven't for a while, 3 cbs wide across the back, rico helping rodri in midfield , ake/laporte will play left, stones/akanji right,and one other in the middle, don't like that set up myself ,but thats what pep is doing, all this talk of we've got no fullbacks really doesn't matter , because we aren't using them, we may change it up a bit during a game, bringing walker on as a traditional right back , ake then goes lb , but the starting team that pep is using is 3 at the back, he most probably thinks that's the way to stop the counters against us.

We were planning to use FB's, hence our failed bid for Cucurella. I think our use of 3 CB's is more down to a lack of FB options. Having 4 FB's wouldn't stop us using 3 CB's if tactically required...

Phillips is a weird one, obviously been injury plagued, but when he plays you can tell he’s a lovely footballer but just so fucking slow it’s frightening, he just plays with zero intensity.
