The End of on Street Parking within walking distance of the Etihad

The proposals are to extend the existing parking scheme near the Etihad Stadium to operate every day from 12 noon to 11pm, and include all of the surrounding streets'

These proposals will see the end of all on street parking in both none residential and residential areas alike at all locations around the Etihad.

Areas where free unrestricted parking is currently permitted such on Briscoe Lane, Riverpark Road (behind the old abattoir and Philips Park cemetery), Clayton Lane and many others will end and new restrictions which will prohibit all none permit holders from parking.

The proposal even plan to implement residents parking only restrictions on streets where no residential dwellings exist, there aren't any houses on Eccleshall Street (the were demolished 15-20 years ago) in Clayton, but low and behold they are restricting the full length of the carriageway on both sides to some none existent residents.

Anyone effected by these proposals can log an objection, but you will need to be quick, they need to be in by 16 March 2023.

Andy Burnham and MCC are a bunch of dickheads, they think because there's a small, unreliable, very slow tram servicing less than 1% of the area of GM we should all be on public transport to and from every game.

We don't live in London.

Can expect £30 event day parking on the offsite car parks when the arena is up and running.

Travelling to the Etihad Is going to get an whole lot worst in the near future, firstly the removal of all of the on street parking, along with the imminent closure/suspension of the metro line to Ashton in 2024.

This is terrible for night matches. Are they also doing this at Old Trafford where there is lots of on-street parking?
 
An ex-girlfriend of mine lives in one of these areas and it’s a nightmare for residents on matchdays so when the arena opens it would be a nightmare for residents five nights or more a week so I can see why they’re doing it.

But if they’re doing this, public transport to Etihad Campus needs to drastically improve!

The frequency of Mets post-game is a fucking joke. Three times this season I’ve waited nearly half an hour after reaching the platform before a Met to Town has shown up. That’s utterly pathetic. You get a more frequent Met service in the arse-end of nowhere like Shaw on a Tuesday afternoon than after a City game at the Etihad.

There needs to be a huge increase in bus services to Piccadilly and Victoria stations from the Etihad post-game.

There needs to be a proper walk route set up.

There needs to be Park&Ride for people who don’t head into Town at various places across the outskirts of the conurbation.

Even a water taxi service set up from Town in the Rochdale Canal would be good.

There needs to be more around the Campus to stay and have a drink and/or food so that not everyone needs to leave at the same time.
 
My attendance at matches has been hanging by a thread for a few years now.
Travelling to Manchester seems to take longer and longer every trip, and parking has always been a chore.

These new parking restrictions will drive some regulars away from the gane (no pun intended), but the club won't care. They'll probably lay on luxury transport from the airport for tourists.

Almost certainly no s/c renewal for me next season, and I won't be paying ridiculous prices that they charge for the occasional match.

Same here. I've parked on Briscoe Lane for nearly 20yrs and am home within 10-15min. No way am I paying a tenner per game for the privilege of sitting in the car park for an hour. Briscoe Lane isn't even residential ffs, it's a joke.

Thanks mate, as many match going fans as possible should lodge a complaint, the parking options and public transport ate currently unacceptable and it will only getuch worse with these new restrictions and the Ashton tram issues

Most of the new restrictions that they are proposing are not in residential areas, for example, there are no residential properties whatsoever on Riverpark Road, but still, they are planning to introduce restriction which will prohibit match day parking along the entire length on both sides.

The metro station at the Etihad is simply not fit for purpose, it’s too small and does not have the capacity to move large volumes of people in a short period.

If Transport for Greater Manchester were serious about public transport, they would have built at massive sidings at the rear of Etihad where they could park up say 50 trams, then they would have the rolling stock on hand to move 20,000 people immediately after an event. But this is never going to happen, as of December 2022 Metrolink is operated by a fleet of only 147 trams and they aren’t going to dedicate over a third of its rolling stock to the Etihad

Trouble is most S/T holders who go to virtually every game generally want / need to get there as late as possible and get home as soon as they can.

The odd match your plans may change and you do something different where time isn't an issue.

I drive and have a 25 minute walk to the ground from where I park. Without a car (and lets be honest they are fuckin expensive to have nowadays), I ain't going to the match.

I have a choice of a Railway station 3 miles away or a Train / Tram Station 8 miles away. Using either would mean a 50 minute walk from Town or a Tram up to Etihad.
Either way it's taking me 2.5 hours to get to the Etihad, and god knows how long getting home Night matches forget it. Never happening for me.

Public Transport may be OK for tourists with all the time in the world or locals living next to a Metrolink station (when it runs) but for most of us it's a car or stay at home.

Always said the old fleet should have been repurposed for footy / events across Mcr, standing room only.
Too late as they fuckin scrapped em, barely 20 years old which us fuck all.

Briscoe Lane another great example, no residential properties whatsoever between the Fire Station and Ten Acres Lane, but still, they are planning to introduce restriction which will prohibit match day parking along the entire length on both sides, total madness, it really is.
