The End of on Street Parking within walking distance of the Etihad

If it was genuinely about public transport then reopening Park railway station on Briscoe Lane would be a priority as the platforms are still there.

I was about to say, the railway line runs within a few minutes walk of the ground, if they could build a station. Didn’t even realise there was a disused one there.

Highly doubt it will happen though. They don’t even bother using the one they’ve actually already got right outside Old Trafford any more. Due to funding I believe.

Thought the one at the swamp not being used was due to united & security

Always said the old fleet should have been repurposed for footy / events across Mcr, standing room only.
Too late as they fuckin scrapped em, barely 20 years old which us fuck all.
I think they sold them on, possibly to a tram network that already had those models… they were pretty crap - constantly breaking down compared to the current fleet.

The proposals are to extend the existing parking scheme near the Etihad Stadium to operate every day from 12 noon to 11pm, and include all of the surrounding streets'

These proposals will see the end of all on street parking in both none residential and residential areas alike at all locations around the Etihad.

Areas where free unrestricted parking is currently permitted such on Briscoe Lane, Riverpark Road (behind the old abattoir and Philips Park cemetery), Clayton Lane and many others will end and new restrictions which will prohibit all none permit holders from parking.

The proposal even plan to implement residents parking only restrictions on streets where no residential dwellings exist, there aren't any houses on Eccleshall Street (the were demolished 15-20 years ago) in Clayton, but low and behold they are restricting the full length of the carriageway on both sides to some none existent residents.

Anyone effected by these proposals can log an objection, but you will need to be quick, they need to be in by 16 March 2023.

When that bomb went off at the Paris ground, they immediately stopped using it, for about a year from memory. But then they started up again, so you’d have to assume the security issues had been addressed satisfactorily.

They then stopped again and I heard it was a funding issue. The train company were happy to run it but didn’t want to be out of pocket and United apparently weren’t interested in subsidising it.

That’s what I heard anyway. Can’t say for sure it’s true.
