I can't believe we are living in a world where a government thinks it can get away with making all asylum illegal.


The right to claim asylum literally predates christianity, and the conservative party thinks it can wipe it out.

I don’t think they are trying to make claiming asylum illegal. They are just trying to make it impossible for anyone to claim it.

Imagine a crazy idea of giving people a fair chance to apply for asylum at embassies or processing centres before getting to the channel. Those approved can get on a nice big boat/plane and not run the very large risk of dying or being sold as a slave just getting here. It really doesn’t seem that difficult to solve.

They’re removing all legal methods of claiming asylum, which is the same as making it illegal.

You should be able to make a claim from any British embassy, have that claim processed in a reasonable time and then if you’re successful, be provided transport.

Imagine a world where asylum seekers bring the $5,000+ per person it costs to get smuggled here with them to start their new life instead of paying it to organised crime. A world where people can work the day they arrive int he country not after 6 months dependent on the state, where refugee doctors and nurses are put on a pathway to be qualified for the NHS.

Its all easily possible if they wanted it to be.

Brown was the polar opposite to Johnson. Intelligent, capable, principled, a man of stature on the world stage. But his lack of charisma didn’t play well in the cheap seats where in truth, maybe a third of the country don’t know anything about politics so just vote for the person they “like”. Brown also blew it by sounding a bit condescending about that woman from Rochdale. Sadly that’s what politics has become to a lot of people, just another X factor.

Gordon Brown was effectively “the last politician” - when he left he should have turned the lights off and locked up.

BBC News in Calais just now spoken with migrants waiting to cross the Channel say todays announcement changes nothing for them - why?
