Club statement on offensive chanting

Chelsea FC condemns the inappropriate chants heard from some home fans during this evening’s game. Hateful chanting has no place in football and we apologise to anyone who has been offended by them.

I think that Chelsea statement is word for word the same as the second part of the City one.

Probably a Premier League template that every club has agreed to release within minutes of anybody making a complaint.

Ours didn't use the words hateful, or apologise.

If our club hadn't issued the statement and if it wasn't in the headlines, would Chelsea fans have sung the chants tonight? Possibly not, ironically. And with Chelsea now doing it, it may well follow them to the next away game.

Not quite word for word but both did use the word “hateful “

“Chelsea FC condemns the inappropriate chants heard from some home fans during this evening’s game. Hateful chanting has no place in football and we apologise to anyone who has been offended by them.”

"Manchester City FC are disappointed to have heard inappropriate chants from home fans during today's game. We regret any offence these chants may have caused and will continue to work with supporters groups and officials from both clubs to eradicate hateful chanting from this fixture."

Perhaps all clubs need to develop a very Heysel-specific chant, so there can be no doubt whatsoever around its origins...

Still “disaster chanting” I’m afraid. I’m
expecting “It should have been 10” to be included in the next updated list of banned chants.

And as for chanting about "tearing ******* apart, again" - surely this should be apologised for. Tearing is a scary word in this day and age...
