James Maddison

Brilliant player. Bargain for whoever gets him but I’d be surprised if Pep’s eyes didn’t light up even more after some of that today.

A good player and if by any chance Bellingham's move does fall through then I wouldn't be totally against bringing him in for the right price.

Ake, Grealish, Phillips, Maddison…

It makes sense to buy the best players from the teams that struggle (often surprisingly) in the league. These clubs often have to rebuild or the players have particular clauses in their contracts than can be triggered. Maddison knows the league and would be a shrewd addition.

Phillips ain't good enough

Not going to issue judgement on a player who has only managed 391 minutes of football for us, not just yet. If the club does decide to shift on him, which would be unusual, then they’ll do so this summer, but even if he stays, we still might not see the best of him until 24-25.

If Gundo goes, would be a top replacement mate.

He's nowhere near Gundo's level and he's a completely different player to him.

Maddison is a luxury player. A highlight reel player, shows flashes of quality, but he isn't a controller and he never will be.

I'd rather go for Alexis Mac Allister every day of the week. Tactically/positionally more suited to us, work rate is better off the ball, better presser and is a midfield controller. He's the most similar player we could probably get to Gundo.

Not under Pep mate.

Grealish and Mahrez were luxuries as well. In the world we inhabit, there’s not much need for a Ford Fiesta.

You cannot afford luxury players in central midfield. You need players that understand the role, understand their position.

If you think a midfield of Rodri, Maddison and De Bruyne has the right balance, then I can't help you.

What you deride as luxuries I prefer to see as highly talented players who are intelligent enough to be properly coached. Even Bernardo had to be coached as to how to play in midfield in Guardiola’s system. If the club thinks Maddison is good enough, then I’d expect to see him thrive in 24-25. Nobody, not even Mac Allister, would waltz into our midfield without first slipping.
