Bayern Munich (A) | Post Match Thread

Not sure that's totally correct. The second leg was always going to be awkward with a 3-0 lead. I think being caught in two minds how to play it hindered us. Obviously we wanted to be cautious and not over commit as we led 3-0. By contrast Bayern had nothing to lose so they had to go on all out attack. In the second half we managed the game better but I'll agree we have to be able to hold onto the ball more and take the sting out of the game more convincingly

We're at the sharp end of the
world's best competition and we're going to suffer at some point in games, just like Bayern did at our place. Both penalties were ridiculous, imagine losing to a decision like that, shocking and the rule needs changing.

Madrid are better than Bayern. They are great at game management and have match winners all over. They have that knack of turning games around from nothing too, as we found out to our cost last season. We'll need to be at our best and the Gods with us to prevail.

The Madrid games, I suspect will be quite cagey. City have been streetwise in big games this season, conceding possession against Arsenal and Bayern and taken our chances. We aren't going to be naive in the matches with Real and be too open. I suspect the games will be very cagey, particularly the away leg.

Depending on the outcome of the first game, home advantage can be huge, away goals or not. Our record at home is incredible, we've turned our ground in to a fortress.

Disagree. First leg is “normally” close. Id rather they played at home first leg with something to lose. That way worst case we come away with a 1 goal deficit which we should be able to overturn and a clear awareness of what we need.

The idea of rolling madrid over in the first leg such that the second leg is a non contest is so wide of the mark.

When they had nothing to lose at home last season they pressured us and made us shit the bed. They dont do that to us at the etihad and they dont do that to us in a first leg either.

We rolled over Bayern in the first leg and made the second essentially a non-contest.

Bayern are better than Real.

Yeah last year it was tough, but they had the rub of the green. They could've easily lost to Chelsea, Us and the dippers and they couldn't have complained.
It's funny that they get to play the same teams this season too just a different order, and hopefully it'll end differently for them too.

As for having a tough draw, if we get to the final by beating BM and RM then that's as tough as it gets.

They were just so clinical. Looking back at last season's games it's crazy how many goals they scored in comparison to their opposition despite considerably fewer shots on goal. Overall shots (shots on target) below. I recognise the shots could be from anywhere and don't determine how good the chance was, but it's a staggering difference.

Real 3-2 PSG

24 (7) v 31 (12)

Real 5-4 Chelsea

18 (9) v 48 (12)

Real 6-5 City

25 (10) v 31 (16)

Real 1-0 Liverpool

4 (2) v 24 (9)

Overall they scored 15 goals from 28 shots on target whilst conceding 11 goals from 49 shots on target. Worth noting they scored 5 at Anfield from 9 shots (6 on target) but have declined that ratio against Chelsea so there's hope we can be the team that stops their winning streak in the competition!

Absolutely buzzing today :)

Professional performance and it's great to see we can play multiple ways our experience in the competition was on show last night loved it.

Bernardo Silva was brilliant, what a player he is such a shame he wants to leave :( shame about Ake and hopefully he's not out for long.

Must say the offside technology in the Champions League is vert good and very fast the handball rule though ffs ha.

Oh and Thomas Touchel is a prick

As a club we have bent over backwards for him, let's not forget his early form was terrible and his attitude even worse.

He ran into form and his standing in football rose accordingly, the club rewarded him with a huge new contract and in return he went MIA and spat his dummy out as soon as things turned against him.

To celebrate your parent club missing a penalty is crass and ignorant, even more so with the score line of his loan club were at.

His attitude and petulance will haunt him long after his career is done, and for me he is already done as a top player.

Proper little ****.

Fuck him right off to whoever will have him.

We can flip it both ways. City were six inches away from Bayern reducing the deficit by two goals inside the first half hour.

It was a chasing because our flanks couldn't cope with their runners, hence why Pep says he changed it at the break to ensure Grealish and Bernie played closer to our back line.

Our midfield was wide open because Stones couldn't make up the extra man, having to run back all the time.

It was a chasing in terms of what City are usually exposed to.

Bayern are certainly a top team but I am under no illusions, we were not allowed to play well for long periods and a superior attack such as Real's will only cause us bigger issues if we go again with the same formation.
Real Madrid do not have a superior attack. They are actually easier to prepare for because they do not have as much pace and we know exactly how they will line up. We will beat them easily with Erling

Was there last night, back row up in the gods. Brilliant from the first pint at noon until the Mc D's at 1am :O

Just seen the highlights and BOTH of those penalties were ridiculous. Glad that the ref treated both instances the same, but giving a penalty for having a ball booted at you from less than 6 feet and it grazes/touches an arm that is not perfectly by your side, IS FUKIN STUPID !

Anyway, result was ALL that mattered (not even the performance was that important) and we got a result that put some money in my pocket (draw with Haaland to score and both teams to score) ... didn't quite cover costs of trip, but did put a dent in it :D

We better win Semi (can't make it), as I've got flights and hotel booked for Istanbul !

The way I see it. Where were Upam ecano's hands/arms when the ball was kicked? They were behind his back. Where was his elbow when it made contact with the ball? At least 6 inches away from his body. Pen all day. There's was a bit more subjective. Although Akanji had his arm in the air, it was for balance. The ball was kicked from a couple of foot against it. Pen, although its the rule thats wrong.
It came off Akanji's foot onto his arm.

Just wanted to say a massive congratulations on making it past Bayern. A super professional performance over both legs. It's getting real now lads! (pun intended)

Seems like Tommy Tuchel has taken Chelsea's patented finishing style with him to the Allianz. When the cameras panned to the Bayern executives last night I wonder if they were figuring out if they could bring Nagelsmann back :)
