The Conservative Party

In recent years we’ve seen countless ministers be “useless, incompetent, and fail to deliver Government policy” and still not be held accountable, so Rees-Mogg’s being a tad hypocritical there.

It’s shameful to treat nurses in this way “going to court” why don’t they just give them a decent pay rise ?

Exhibit A - Raab - they are cunts behaving like cunts who are happy now to be seen as such. Always said they can legislate all they want but what if a unions doesn't call a strike but over a given period nobody turns in for work? They can't sack you when they are short of qualified people and everybody will know whats behind it whilst the Govt just watch on impotent

Raab is a piece of work. He lies like Boris but is as bland as bird poo that you don’t even know how he’s allowed near children let alone civil servants.

It’s not about Raab or any other individual minister, it’s about maintaining high standards across the upper echelons of the civil service, and being able to intervene when these standards are breached.

The past few years have produced countless examples of poor judgement and behaviour by senior civil servants - Partygate in particular - and it’s important that ministers (of all persuasions) are able to tackle this without fear of being hauled up for bullying. That’s why I’m uneasy about simply calling out Raab on this as he may actually be right.

Obviously for many on here, he’s just another Tory so and so who was obviously in the wrong. They may, however, want to have a look at some of the allegations made against Labour’s last prime minister, and consider how these were covered up at the time. He makes Raab look like a complete snowflake.
Weren't the senior civil servants involved in Partygate acting at the bidding of a minister? Would they have been shouted at if they'd not done what their boss said?

I'd like to maintain the neutrality of the civil service but even Yes Minister had the political advisers to push for government.

The objectivity of civil servants is in the Code:

You must:

  • provide information and advice, including advice to ministers, on the basis of the evidence, and accurately present the options and facts
  • take decisions on the merits of the case
  • take due account of expert and professional advice
You must not:

  • ignore inconvenient facts or relevant considerations when providing advice or making decisions
  • frustrate the implementation of policies once decisions are taken by declining to take, or abstaining from, action which flows from those decisions

But, just as soldiers should refuse illegal orders, should not civil servants refuse to go along with illegal policies? And if they think an outgoing government is taking a "scorched earth" approach to the economy, to the detriment of the nation, or acting against the security of the country (driving down domestic food production?), would you really be surprised (or bothered) if they got a bit obstructive?

How do civil servants become 'obstructive'? Well, with this government, they are probably pointing out the illegality of proposed legislastion.

I was annoyed watching Raab's rambling whinge about his fall from grace. It was typically top form tory excuses from start to finish, that it was a conspiracy from leftie, woke civil servants, and nothing to do with his dreadful behaviour. He'd 'only' been found guilty of bullying on two occasions, which was alright in his book, but how many bullies have ever accepted they are twats to work for because they have 'high standards'. He is, after all, a man that doesn't believe in human and employment rights, so we shouldn't be surprised he is so defensive about his behaviour.

He's the 4th tory minister in the last few years forced out of office for breaches of the ministerial code, and throw Johnson into the hat who lost his right to be 'King of the World' because his party couldn't support his bullshit any longer, and it's a dreadful reflection of just how low perceptions of honesty and decency those in public office regard as reasonable have now plummeted.

It is, looking back, an unprecedented situation, but one which has now, somehow, been normalised and isn't seen in any way as odd.

Dominic Raab wants us to see him as a victim, because it's not his fault?

It's just typical tory refusal to accept anything they have done is wrong.

"You wouldn't like to be treated like that by your boss..."

Has Rees-Mogg ever had a boss?
I’m really looking forward to the response from this one when they get pasted at the next GE.
I think the blame apportioning and responsibility dodging will reach insane levels.

That land isn’t worth shit, it needs about £1bn spent on it just to decontaminate it before you can start using it for anything.

Let’s hope it brings the jobs and investment predicted.

You don't understand - the property developers could benefit to the tune of £100m BUT the environmental costs of decontamination remain with the local authority - they don't give a fuck about costs they just lean on their mate Ben to get the jobs done

ha ha ha ha - so convinced of his innocence so sure is he of retaining his seat he is following the now well worn escape route for them rather than stand and fight

Raab sounds like he's been briefed by Bannon. Blaming lefty civil servant etc for being a bullying ****.
