Some nonsense being spouted about Eddie again haha. Must be his turn. By the way, after that fuck up by him and many stones, what he did the few seconds after that was brilliant. Someone said a few pages back ortega would be “Just fine” in our build up play. Well just fine isn’t good enough for us. Ederson is crucial to our build up play and is the best in the world at it

The whole point is he nearly gets caught dawdling. That’s the risk he takes so that the player receiving the pass is in more space. The tactic doesn’t work if he passes it too early.
Great point, easily overlooked by many imo. It's the same with Stones, he deliberately takes a fraction of a second extra to generate that extra bit of space. It looks risky, but is essential.

Ederson is like every other player; occasionally he'll have a stinker. However, he is the best goalkeeper in the world, probably in the history of goalkeeping, at what he does best and what he provides 'this' team. He makes so many passes every game, under pressure, that other goalkeepers simply could not do. These numerous passes, from a goalkeeper, go unnoticed because Ederson has normalised them. How many times do you see a keeper get pressured from a high press and their fucking arse falls out?

Ederson is, and has been, as integral to our success under Pep as any other player you care to think about. For this, I'll forgive him his odd brain-fart and be thankful for what he brings to the team.

Yep, the reason some think his passing isn’t as good as it was is when he arrived we’d never seen anything like it and were awe struck. Now we have become so accustomed to it we take it for granted and our memory makes us think it was better before. It is probably exactly the same and still far beyond any other keeper I can think of maybe even peak Neuer.

Oh boy

Let’s face it, Eddie is arguably out best keeper of the modern era, occasional lack of communication, with Phillips a couple of weeks ago and with Dias yesterday, but in general he is a very key part of our recent success. Keepers this days are either heroes or villains, nothing in between. His recovery from the cock-up with Dias was brilliant and saved a probable equaliser but I sometimes wonder whether he communicates with his defenders, too many times I have seen defender and keeper going for the same ball. Shout “mine” please.

Yesterday in the first half - around 35 mins IIRC - he came for a ball in our box and you could hear his call in the stands (and on TV) but Dias still went and headed the ball away.

Yeah, it made me wonder whether that happened again with that near-miss in the second half. One of them had to have called it.

Ederson, in the nicest possible way, is a total fucking nutter.

But you don’t achieve historical feats with ordinary people and players who are “good enough”.

The best way I can describe him is that he’s like one of those mountain climbers that summit sheer rock faces without a harness.

That’s the kind of mentality we need though. We don’t need players who think that they will succeed. We need players who know that they won’t fail.

Those players are like gold dust but we have three of them in Eddie, KDB and Haaland. It would be ridiculous to take that out of the team and it’s one of the reasons all three play every week.

Somehow we've managed to climb to the top of the league again with him in goal :-)
Hes been fantastic recently. wonder if pep bollocking him v arsenal has put doubt in his mind? Seemed very unsure v fulham. Sure it wont last.

The grass seemed a bit long, made some passes slower than they would be usually and the ball hold up a touch on through balls.

We struggled a bit for rhythm last year at Brentford when they did the same. Hoping we can have the league won before we go back there last day of the season.

I actually thought his famed distribution wasn't particularly good either on Sunday. Can't judge his shot stopping because he had virtually nothing to do. I don't fault him on the goal (although it would have been nice if he'd pulled out a world class reaction save and parried it).
Look, Ed is who he is. He's not going to change. What I do think is that he's clearly integrally part of a back unit of five or six, more so than virtually every other keeper that's been seen in the game. That's the way Pep's set it up, that's the way they train. Pep's not going to change it.

I very much doubt that, every fan only wants to see the players at their most reliable and consistent best.
i agree, cant think of one city fan that wants anyone to fail, however ,some of the fans on here seem to need someone to jump on ,not giving them an inch, its pretty sad to see, and the posters stick out like a sore thumb, they instead of looking knowledgeable look a bit immature ,trying to make out they are some sort of footballing guru and know better

Edited for accuracy.
