Was never a penalty yesternight (can see why it was given though),but dear me,the number of rash decisions he's been making or made in the last year or so,under the guise of sweeping,is shocking.

Rarely looks like he can keep us in games in periods where we aren't playing well and just huge lapses in concentration lately

Simply put, we are winning despite/in spite of him,not because of him.
Why was it given then

He didnt have a save to make so not sure why this thread is active with moaners, the pen was a joke decision.

His distribution was top class i thought, helped us beat their press many times.
This , no win without his distribution and press resistance , people have it in for him without looking at the big picture , kneejerk fuckwittery

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…

The season he stops playing for us, people will suddenly realise how simple he makes very difficult things look and they’ll start to complain about whoever replaces him not being as good.

On another note, nobody seems to be acknowledging that the first goal came from his ball that put their CB and RB under pressure. Against Villa his pass completion rate was 97%. He has had several games this season where it was 100%. People who say “oh well he’s just passing it short”. Okay. Find me another keeper who can pass it short 40 times a game while being pressed without fucking up once, he’s a victim of his own success because he’s so good he makes something very difficult look very easy.

He even told Saka where to go and then dived the other way.

I was gobsmacked he dove the other way as well

I mean I don't get this criticism at all. Yes, he pointed at that corner as a mind game against Saka, but why is he now actually held to that like he "had to" dive where he pointed? It was always a lottery anyway. Saka could have chosen the other corner as well, there is no rule to follow here just because Ederson tried to intimidate the striker. Isn't the whole mind game strategy to confuse the shot taker? He points to a corner, but he might dive the other way as well and the same goes for the shot taker, he may or may not decide to go for the indicated corner. If Ederson had dived where he pointed, but Saka decided to pick the other way and scored, would people still criticize Ederson "why did he dive where he pointed, wasn't it obvious enough that Saka wouldn't follow his bluf?". This is a lose-lose case for the keeper, he either saves the shot or he doesn't, the mind games played no role at all in this specific instance, because the shot taker and the keeper chose different corners.

I also find it an utterly bizarre criticism.

I can guarantee you they both picked the direction they were going before the game even kicked off. Keepers don’t just randomly choose these days. The mind games is just a bit of theatre and I’m pretty sure Mahrez told him to do it because he had a long conversation with him before the kick.

Of all the criticisms to level at a keeper “not saving enough penalties” is one of the weirdest I can think of. Missed penalties are like 45% the taker bottling it, 45% random chance and maybe 10% keeper involvement.

Used to be. For a long while now he's been doing more and more insane nonsense that benefits nobody. Rushing out of goal and not getting there used to be once a season, now it's much more frequent. And what was that last night, getting booked for timewasting after about five warnings?

The other thing, not as major, is that when facing a penalty you never even hope that he might save it. He even told Saka where to go and then dived the other way.
Could that "nonsense" be corrected by our gk coach? Any idea if Mancisidor is good at his job?
