Real Madrid (A) | Post Match Thread

The key next time is for Haaland to walk his marker in to midfield like Kane does against us.

Then we can have runners going behind them.

People are overplaying Rudiger's night.

Haaland could have had a hat-trick and scored twice in the opening 20 minutes.

Only a last-ditch block from Alaba prevented a certain goal in the second half.

Chances are premium at this level.

Madrid can defend against three Haaland's if they only have to go man-for-man on the edge of the 18-yard area.

When we did get behind, Bernie sent Kev clear and Courtois saved well with his angles.

At some stage you need a player who is going to entice a tackle because they can commit someone, whether it be Phil or Mahrez.

We were under instruction not to overcommit. Plenty of times Gundo and De Bruyne had the ball at their feet striding towards the Real box without pressure. Real kept a solid bank of defenders and we played the ball wide to Bernie/Grealish who then looked to pass centrally to the edge of the box. It meant we were largely limited to long range strikes whilst Haaland occupied their defenders, but it did get us our goal.

It also meant we dealt with the counter really well, which is Real's biggest threat.

At home Pep will unleash them a bit more. We'll see De Bruyne given more freedom to get closer to Haaland and it should lead to more chances. It only takes someone getting close to profit from the space he leaves, as De Bruyne did against Arsenal, or for the defender to move away from Haaland enough for him to profit.

I can't see Foden or Mahrez coming in but they both look to get in scoring positions more than Bernie and Grealish which does give us something different and more for Real to think about. But it also means we've committed more forwards when there's a counter so I can't see Pep changing the lineup in the attacking areas unless we need a goal.

City with the handbrake on and still coming away from the Bernabeu with a draw :)

On way to airport brilliant 4 days even the police weren’t heavy handed at the game this time.
At Madrid train station now going to Barcelona, what a great 4 days lovely city and people.
I left this morning - had 5 nights there. Have to say I mentioned to several people before going that there was a need to be wary of the RM fans and the police as they have a bad reputation - but, like you guys, my experience was the opposite - fans I met were really friendly and good company and I thought the police were 'light touch'

Should've have a better performance, but 1-1 away is great all things considered. Gundo needs a rest, Bernardo wasn't the attacking threat we needed him to be, and neither was Grealish aside the start. No subs was also surprising, but I guess Pep wanted to manage the game and see it out.
They didn't have their first attempt on goal til the 34th minute, we are talking Real Madrid at home here.

Mahrez would be my choice. He can draw at least 2-3 players towards him and free up space in the middle for kdb or gundog . Also when he is inside the box there’s alway a good chance he gets tripped over. His footwork is very good but needs walker to support him.

If he needs a walker, he should be nowhere near our first 11.

Exactly. And it was on! Grealish is always very honest and said that Pep wanted them to take 3 or 4 touches. It wasn't about crisp, quick high risk passing. It was about staying in control and staying in the game.

We've drawn all but one away game in the CL this season. We're a different side at home and I hope Pep lets them off the leash again.

Many talk about fatigue but we ran 109km compared to Real's 107km as a team on Wednesday. We did 120kms vs Bayern at home. It was hot, it was tough. Back at home, fans behind us we'll smash them.

You could see Kyle egging VJR on 'Go on, me and you, lets have a race - I'm the one player you can't run away from.'

Think many are getting overly confident about next week. This Real team won 4-0 at Barca, 5-2 at Liverpool and have one of the worlds top 3 players. I know we have great players too but they may be more suited to playing us on the break. I can see it being incredibly tough. They also have a better goaly who can make many great saves. I still make it 50/50.

These fuckers acutally did check the names on the tickets ...

Someone know why we got only 1800 out of 80K?

Couldnt watch this after all, how did we play ? I dont care if we were shit so long as we won and win next week, winning ugly is fine by me
I thought we did alright Kaz considering the heat, in my view we slightly shaded it but it was quite even.
Think both teams were sizing each other up before next Wednesdays slugfest.
