I’ve been on the pitch myself a few times in the past, but it was largely spontaneous celebrations after big results on the day/night (Wigan, Birmingham, QPR, Villa).
Today felt a bit different because the title was already won, so told my son I didn’t think a pitch invasion would even take place. When it did there was obviously no way I could be arsed myself, but he’s young and went for it so won’t begrudge him that. I’d have done the same as his age.
Still annoyed me a bit though as it seemed a bit unnecessary and forced in the circumstances, plus it delayed the presentation. That’s just me being curmudgeonly though.
Felt to me like the stewards weren’t really that bothered anyway. They were letting people past with no resistance, and in some cases practically helping others. Don’t blame them given the money they’re on, and maybe they’re even instructed not to object forcibly.
Wouldn’t even surprise me if, deep down, City don’t mind these things. For a club accused of lacking passion or authenticity (whatever that means), they’re probably not averse to images of thousands of Blues storming the pitch with smoke bombs etc.
Anyway, in conclusion it was mildly annoying but no real harm done.
