Levi Colwill

And Gvardiol is proven playing in the Bundesliga?
Croatia national team for 2 years now, has Champions League experience, 3rd place at the World Cup, was in the team of the year 2021, and IFFHS world team of the year 2022. Generally considered the best young CB in the world. No comparison, IMO.

Colwill is good but he is no Gvardiol. He is yet to make an England cap, only 16 apps in the Premier League as well.

But ultimately he plays in the German league, and is hardly proven yet himself at the highest level. My point isn't about who is the better of the two. But Gvardiol seems to get an awful lot of praise for not an awful lot at times.

Are you joking? Every player comes with risks but look how good players we’ve signed from Germany turn out. KDB, Sane, Gundo, Dzeko, Akanji, Haaland, Kompany, Boateng, Ortega. I’m sure there are plenty more.

I personally think in Europe the Bundesliga is the most complete. Spain is a two team league, Italy isn’t what it used to be.

I like the kid but he needs more experience to warrant a move to us, certainly if we are looking at Gvardiol who I’m confident if we sign will play a lot of games.

The Bundesliga is entertaining but the quality is bang average at best. It's entertaining because the defending in general is an absolute circus.

I also never said that good players can't and don't come from the Bundesliga so I don't really know what you are rambling about. I'm just making the point that Gvardiol at this moment in his career is also far from proven. I'm also basing my own opinion of seeing him play for Leipzig and Croatia 5 or so times over the last 12 months and him never standing out once.

Way more proven than Colwill, though, and as proven as a 21-year-old can be. People have too much of a PL bias here. Some of the best players in the world also play in La Liga or Bundesliga. Just because someone made 16 apps for a 6th team in the PL does not put them in the same category as arguably the best CB prospect in the world.

I've not once said Colwill is proven or is more or less proven though. He's a good prospect, that's it. But I'm not getting all this love for Gvardiol. If we all rated and hyped players exactly the same amount football forums would be quite boring.

The reason Gvadiol is a standout is for his ability on the ball. Stones has been excellent slotting into the middle from CB and we've had players do it from full back, but Gvardiol is just tailor made to do that role for us. He'd do it even better than Stones because he's got a very good eye for an attacking pass.

Judging him from what I've seen, I don't recall him being anything special. I guess I just watched the games for Leipzig in which he didn't stand out. That's not to say he was bad or anything. He just didn't stand out and I didn't see this player some people are giddy over.

TA lot will be giddy because of the price and the fact they like to play football manager. He's got all the attributes to be an excellent option for us both at LB or LCB and pushing into midfield. With Laporte leaving he's a very good versatile option to include. If you were up against quicker wingers and wanted a more traditional LB then I'd play Ake. If you wanted to push a LB into midfield or have a bit more thrust going forwards then Gvardiol would be the option. Or he could step out from CB into midfield.

I don't think Pep is likely to move too far away from the current system next time around. He'll have adaptations of it and other tricks up his sleeve but we're pretty dominant at the moment and it should see us in good stead for the first few months of the season before it needs evolving again.

Think there's only a slim chance of getting him. If we can't agree a price we shouldn't stretch ourselves but should just cut-off negotiations and not waist our time

I do love the idea of pep buying and producing English players.

Let’s get Colwill over Gvardiol
If we can’t get Bellingham get Rice
Sign Maddison when Bernie goes

Stones/Foden/Grealish/Walker/Lewis/Palmer

Develop McAtee/Trafford etc.

Keep winning, watch everyones blood boil.
