She is only good when opposition wingers roast Bronze and Daly (who cannot defend) and whip in high crosses to diminutive strikers. Pretty much the last Euros. Popp of Germany would have revealed all of Millie Bright’s inadequacies but as we all know Popp was injured and missed the final…..lucky Sarina Wiegman. With her more talented centre back mate Leah Williamson missing who is going to pair up and direct this extremely limited footballer?? The genius Wiegman played Alex Greenwood as a substitute full back in the Euros!!
Houghton and Greenwood or Greenwood and Morgan or Houghton and Morgan is such an obvious set of combinations.
Wiegman will go with Bright and liabilities……Wubben-Moy, Jess Carter and Niamh Charles………….

Christ mate, you really need to get over it, we actually won the Euros, so her decisions all worked out as well as they could. There's no way of knowing if the same would have happened if we'd done things any other way.

And if she's lucky, she's consistently lucky. A good thing for any coach.

Rose Lavelle was one of the most disappointing signings by City. Entirely down to the totally useless Gareth Taylor.

This tells you everything about Taylor… limited as a player and completely out of his depth as a coach. Lavelle was a gift and Taylor marginalised her… it’s like Pep sidelining KDB for Kalvin Phillips.

Bollocks. It's one of the few big fuck-ups on his watch that wasn't on him, he played the right players at the right time and it almost paid off - whoever signed Lavelle should have got a slap, it was an absolute waste of time.

Out of curiosity, have you ever watched Rose Lavelle play football? Not an odd five minutes here and there but really watched her play?

Bollocks…? Is that you Gareth. Sorry you took offence but, Lavelle is world class in the womens game and it’s most certainly not his only fuck up… what about his management of Raso this season? Or is she bollocks too?

Yes. She's an incredibly talented foootballer, she's also significantly and consistently better for the USWNT than she has been in club football - whether for us or in the NWSL. She was also far less impressive that season than Sam Mewis, Caroline Weir, and Keira Walsh in midfield, and Lauren Hemp and Chloe Kelly out wide. Not to mention the injuries.

Nothing against her but she should never have been signed. She's a 10 and there was no spot for her, we'd have had to change the shape entirely and re-build around her - for the sake of one season that she mostly wasn't fit for. That's not how to run a football club properly.

I'm pretty confident it was by accident, but Taylor did the right thing letting in-form players (mentioned above) play in their natural positions rather than tearing things up to try and fit her in.

Yes, the point was bollocks. But christ, if that came across as me saying he's never fucked up then something's got badly lost in translation. He's a shit coach and he's fucked up plenty, I've spent enough time miserable at the Academy Stadium or ranting about him on here over the last few years to know. That doesn't mean every fuck-up during his reign is his fault though.

Raso I can take or leave personally, she's a decent player but like Beckie before her she was never going to replace Kelly, and she's too good to be back-up forever so she was always going to leave sooner than later. I'm sure he could have managed it better but it's not top of my list of issues with Taylor or the women's set-up at the moment.

The problem is we have lost Raso and the reappointment of Taylor probably means Kelly will be out the door too before very long. We will lose Hemp too, as we lost Walsh, Wier and Stanway - the club blames the salary cap but that doesn’t seem to impact Arsenal or Chelsea… we just don’t seem to be able to retain our better players and the club needs to understand why? City women have lost their way, we have been eclipsed and we need better leadership and vision… and I can’t imagine leadership and vision ever being used in the same sentence as Taylor (except here)!

No argument here mate, I 100% agree with you.

Fair enough. You watch a lot of NWSL then?

Yes, Rose plays as a 10. She was rarely used there. That's Taylor's fault. He may have had in form players but "in form" rarely lasts all season. You have a potential "nuclear weapon" sitting on your bench or playing our of position why not see what she can do? Give her a run of games.

And after all that, I've said in this forum on more than one occasion, Lavelle was never brought to City to play. She was used to get Mewis to sign or to keep her from signing for a rival team. Taylor had a game changer dumped in his lap and he stepped all over his dick mismanageing it.

There's no certainty of that, from what they say, they seem happy, we'll have to wait and see (and hope).

Far less NWSL than WSL no doubt, I try to keep up but I'm only human.

I agree it's Taylor's fault that she wasn't played as a 10, it was his name on the teamsheet after all, but the point is that any coach's main responsibility is to get the best out of the team not the best out of any particular player. She had the potential to be the best player in the team, maybe even the country, but how many games and how many dropped points would it take to make it work? That's why the signing itself was the biggest issue, it was set-up to fail.

I can't imagine Taylor figuring it out even if he had the time tbh, but for once he did the right just by doing the simple thing. It would have been irresponsible to up-end the team mid-season to re-build around her when she wasn't even a long-term signing. It'd be a different matter if we were miles off but we only finished 2pts off Chelsea in the end.

That Mewis factor is an interesting one. God, I wish she'd stayed - what a player. I'd love to know the story behind those two and then Dahlkemper coming in, there must have been some stuff going on in the background.

The US players only ever came in because of Covid which had shut down their league completely. They needed game time for the next tournament that was scheduled at the end of that season iirc. Only exception to that was Dahlkemper which was a really strange move all round. She'd just got married but signed for us on a 3 year deal.

Taylor is the luckiest man in football. To have been given another season is frankly bobbins. The womens team has consistently been the weakest part at City and especially under Taylor. I expect nothing from them next season and he’ll be sacked…..total waste of a year.

Russo's gone to Arsenal on a free transfer as she's out of contract. So it isn't just City who struggle to hold on to players. Which is nice.

Chelsea have signed some, but lost Harder amongst others.

Would like to think we can get back in the top 3 next season despite no managerial change, though we do need to make signings still. Make none and I'll be worried about Villa catching us. Sign a top midfielder as a minimum and I'll be hopeful we can get back above united.

They are also losing Batlle, who's on her way to Barcelona. Huge losses both of them, hopefully we can keep our players coming into next season this time, and with a better player management we might be able to up our game

Another quango controlled by Man United and Arsenal.
Surely City, as an important, successful women's team over the last decade, should be involved in this ?
How the hell have the Stretford Soccerettes (the original gatecrashers) got a representative, Patrick Stewart, on this advisory body ?
If City really want to be a top female club, get within the decision making process...
