To be fair the other 2 were dollies that was a very difficult slip catch.Another edge dropped by Bairstow that’s 3 half chances Bairstow has missed
Duckett for meSure. But who misses out. Nobody is dropping Brook.
Half chances?!Another edge dropped by Bairstow that’s 3 half chances Bairstow has missed
Who opens?Duckett for me
Probably unperturbed. England dropped him for Bairstow in St. Lucia back in 2019, when the Ashes were looming, and he was dropped in Pakistan to accommodate another pace bowler. If England are winning it will look understandable, but if this series is as tight as the first two days suggest, then mistakes behind the stumps will be magnified.Penny for foakes thoughts.…..
Against spin yes. Doubt that will prove crucial across 5 games, as far as our options are concerned at least.Probably unperturbed. So, you still think they'll score fast enough to get a sufficient lead by lunch tomorrow, and then bowl us out in two sessions?
Lol. Flat pitch everybody fearing the worst .... yet we are one wicket away from the tail still over a 100 in front.
Fair enough with Bairstow. Playing the lesser keeper gets exposed against spin. But to balance it out would Foakes, as good as he is with the bat, have been able to do what Bairstow did yesterday? Or what Carey looks like doing now?
Will be interesting to see. Ali and Root have already accounted for 36 of the 94 overs, only day 2, and with Stokes apparently unable to shoulder too many overs, it could be that spin is vital over this series. The fact that the Tests are all so condensed in time means the tracks could all be drier and flatter than normal if the hot spell continues.Against spin yes. Pretty sure the squad announced is for the first 2 games. Definitely a case for Foakes if they call up the young leggie.
I wasn't factoring in the possibility of rain. I just couldn't see Australia scoring fast enough, coupled with taking 10 English wickets, to win the game by the end of play tomorrow (your original suggestion). They've been scoring at 3.3 rpo up to now. So, in the theoretical 30 overs in the morning session, they could score 100 runs, which would put them around 20 runs ahead. Another 100 in the afternoon session (if they're still batting) would have them 120 ahead by tea. Short of them skittling England out in a session, they won't win tomorrow. Can the Aussies win the game on mon/Tues, though? Definitely. If they get a first innings lead, they'll be favourites. Now that tomorrow is supposed to be rain affected clearly not - the Aussies look pretty good to rack up 500+ here though and with the way we threw away wickets in the frost innings it will take a huge effort to get back into
This is such an incredibly intensive series, 5 Tests in 45 days, and England have an aging side, so it could be that they think fitness and sharpness will improve as the series unfolds. That last session was awful
Australia will win this one
Undercooked players and poor schedules
to blame.
Obviously it's all still to play out but there could still be another one in the 2nd innings. May well pale into insignificance compared to the juicy carrot Stokes and McCullum will dangle in such circumstances. Will certainly be fascinating to see how that early declaration is interpreted in the history books.

Great contest so far.
