Who is the Best All-Around Player England Has Ever Produced?

‘All around’ was the key for my decision, there’s not many parts of Gerrards game that he couldn’t do, tackling, positioning, reading the game, influence, passing ability, crossing, heading, scoring - he had it all. Just a shame he was a dipper.
I think Lampard, overall, was more effective, and thus better.

But I think—when it comes to comprehensive skills and natural ability allowing them to be the most adaptable player England has produced—Stones has the potential to stand alone when all is said and done.

He has played CB, RB, DM, CM, AM, RW (sometimes at various times in a single match), all to a high level.

I genuinely think he could do a job as a target man in a pinch.

He is a prototypal Pep player, if one exists.

I’m excited for Stones and watching his transaction under Pep, been phenomenal these last few years.

Poobag actually looks ok with a sensible trim.

Bryan Robson, despite being a rag git who got away with some dirty play because he was England captain, did have a good mix of skills and could score, pass and tackle.

Off to wash my mouth out.
He was a belting player mate, and is absolutely up there !

Sadly, I remember watching one of his last games for WBA (against us) when we were in the process of buying Steve Daley, I just stood there with my head in my hands going “no, no, no” as he completely dominated the game for them and rinsed us, great player.

Gerrard is another up there, watched him coming through the ranks at Liverpool and he was head and shoulders above anyone on the pitch even then, had it all

‘The King’ shades it for me though, think it was the grace, elegance and ease he displayed as he played the game.

Colin Bell was the most complete player. Gerrard, Robson and Lampard come close. If he keeps himself fit John Stones will become an England great.

What made Colin Bell unique is that he could have played in any outfield position and looked superb in the role. It's very hard to think of another player like that. I'm sure there are one or two, but they don't spring to mind. Bobby Moore was a fantastic player, but I can't imagine him at centre-forward or on the right wing. Nor can I imagine Stanley Matthews at centre-half.

Dare I say it that **** Charlton was a great player as well.
No denying it sadly.
Booby Moore up there with Beckenbauer in my opinion so I would say Bobby Moore the best English player in my time.
I always that Jack Charlton had a number of limitations in his game...... ;-)
