Declan Rice

Why not if he’s also the best CM in the world and allows us to get the best out of Foden centrally, we already started moving him more forward compared to how we played with Fernandinho due to what we did with Stones. It also allows us to properly play a double pivot when that’s needed too.

Like I said, I’m not a huge fan of Rice but Pep and Txiki will know why far far more than we will, I’m just making an assumption as to what their thinking is.
Got to move Stones out of a role he’s flourished in to accommodate that as well then.

I really don’t see why we need him with Kovacic coming in, would much prefer to see a couple of attackers and move Foden centrally.

I think we can agree that we don’t get involved in bidding wars .. if we do want him we’ll have a package and that will be it . Too many players to mention where we’ve walked away from. I like our approach in this take it or leave it,
There’s not a player out there who we’ve missed out on through a media driven bidding war. The tat-tic has served us very well.
The honours list proves this.
I can't remember one player that we've been gazumped for in the last 6 or 7 years ever being a roaring success anywhere else.

It would be a guarantee that rice and his team have been given a full run down of where he would fit in either in memos, phone calls or face to face. Every transfer across the land will have something similar going on. It would be ridiculous to think otherwise
I agree wholeheartedly… it was a comment I made, based on a couple of disagreements I had with posters, who argued that if it’s down to City or Arsenal and Rice chooses Arsenal, then he lacks ambition and belief. Players have all sorts to consider before they make a decision.

I was resigned to losing Rice many months ago and I’m pleased if it’s City he goes too, would hate to see him in a Arsenal or Chelsea shirt.

I wonder how many on here will quickly change there minds after slating him when I’ve said he’s one the best midfielders in the world - by far the best Hammers player I’ve seen in my lifetime (1992+)

Anyhow, he wants to win trophies, he wants to move on - he’s served us well and vast majority of Hammers fans will wish him well. If you could chuck us Foden as part of the deal that would be great.
You were doing okay till you mentioned Foden.

No you don’t, not if it frees Rodri to go further up as Stones then creates the double pivot with Rice - it’s all about numerical advantage in midfield.

If he is coming in then I’m also assuming Bernardo is leaving. In which case, I agree we’ll need another winger.

Personally, I’d still rather Bernardo stays and we don’t get Rice. If he chooses to go though, then I’m just saying how it might work and the logic behind it.

It's ridiculous how fans think so little prep is done for a transfer. It's a £100m outlay, everything from his position, number, game time, expectations, places to live, eat, socialize, routines for away and home games, travel considerations, time off, family support network, areas to live, golf courses, schools, nurserys everything will be provided by both clubs with players and club officials also lending weight to any potential negotiation.

I agree with you maybe Arteta has managed to sell him on his plans in the same way we did with Yaya, Kun and David etc all have mentioned that they were persuaded by the vision of the club and took a leap of faith of sorts no one could accuse them of lacking ambition etc. It would also have the bonus for him of not having to uproot his family when I believe they have a newborn. I like Rice but can see many reasons he would pick Arsenal.

How about a lightly used Kalvin Phillips instead?

I can’t believe some City fans are saying they don’t want him. Either way he’s a quality player.
He’s absolutely quality just don’t think he fits us. But we’ve been proven wrong on other occasions and I’d be happy for it to happen if the links are real

Are we in for rice to put one over Arsenal. Apparently we pull out of deal to gets rivals to overspend and impact their window buying power.

This city fan influencer came on the TalkSport this evening and started spotting this and how we are not really in for Rice but upping the price for arsenal saying it gamership?

Does anyone ACTUALLY believe this?

Absolute nonsense, we are in for him

Tbf I don’t think there are many city fans who doubt whether Rice is a very good player it’s more whether he is the right player to play no. 8 for us.

In this Pep team we’ve seen Silva, De Bruyne, Gundogan and Bernardo in our number 8 positions and more recently Foden. Rice just isn’t at their level in terms of skill, close control and ability to score and create chances.

He has lots of other qualities and if we didn’t have Rodri he would be good enough to play as a number 6 here. But we do have Rodri who is the best 6 in the world.

Maybe Pep has looked around world football and not seen players as good as the 8s he’s had before so has gone for a different profile - imo there is a real lack of depth in quality in world football in all attacking positions at the moment in comparison to previous eras. Obviously if we are bidding 100m then Pep has a vision about how him and Rodri can play together and also sees him covering for Rodri to give him a break too.

Fwiw at the moment I see him being more likely to end up at Arsenal.

Great post. Lot of truth in that.
