If not Rice who else realistically.

Barella is not leaving Italy
Kimmich is not happening he's staying at Bayern
De Jong is locked in at Barca
Tonali has gone Newcastle
Caicedo is going to cost 120 mil.

Rice is the only midfielder that we can realistically get.

We've briefly been linked with Brozovic as well.

Hence i dont see why we wont do the deal mate? Plus Pep will have wanted assurances from the club about their ambition to go again?

Listen, everyone knows the draw of City, (well at least everyone should anyway). It's there plain for everyone to see, you'd need to be daft to not see it.

But @Psychedelic Casual kind of stole my thunder a bit, but believe it or not, Arteta's Arsenal are becoming an attractive option as well again, after years of being not so much.

Like yourselves we now seem steady off the park. Arteta is now only behind Pep and Klopp in terms of longest serving managers in the league, and players like that stability if they are looking to sign for a club.

He's seen as a very promising young manager, who himself now is getting a good record of improving players, even at City the likes of Sterling and Sabe credited the role he played on helping to improve them.

The owners now are getting the winning feeling in their others sporting franchises, winning the Superbowl, Stanley Cup, NBA Finals etc in the last 18 months, and look like they are backing Arteta as well as they can to make Arsenal better.

I don't mean to get all Humbled on you, and I appreciate City are by far the obvious option. But I still hold hope a tiny sliver of hope in that Arteta has been talking to Rice and his people for several months now, Arteta selling the club and his role to him, each side likely given the other side assurances etc.

Now, he might still choose to join City, I mean who can blame him, but my fear is Arsenal won't even get to the stage of getting a bid accepted to give him that choice to make
But when arteta goes to Barca?

Sky still going with the City in advanced talks thing but using those quotes from Di Marzio still. I just don't think we're in for him and feel Arsenal have a clear run, but will have to pay a 100m fee

It seems clear we’re talking to Rice and his agent about a move to City, however having come to the race later than Arsenal we’re taking our time to establish whether he wants to join the Champions - and won’t be rushed into making a bid until we’re convinced he wants the move. We’re following our process, and working to our own timescales.

And one thing’s for sure - if we do formally make a bid, we’ll be doing it because Declan has told us he wants City over Arsenal.

Our Club won’t get involved if we think he’s undecided, or would be happy either way. We’ll wish him the best, walk away and move onto our next target.

And in my view if he does decide to join Arsenal it clearly doesn’t show a lack of ambition. They’ve been talking to him for a lot longer than us, building a relationship with him, and can sell him on an excellent young team and Manager who have a genuine chance of meeting his ambitions to win major trophies.

City are a better bet on that front, clearly. That’s not arrogance - it’s just a fact. Since Arteta left City for Arsenal, we’ve won three League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and two League Cups. In the same period, Arsenal have won one FA Cup.

But Arsenal are clearly a team on the up, and they will win plenty over the next few years. Rice may decide that’s the path he wants to follow. And for me, that choice would not show a lack of ambition.

At the moment, Arsenal fans have nothing to worry about as they’re in pole position. We haven’t moved for him yet, likely because he hasn’t told us he wants City over Arsenal yet.

But if we do move beyond talking to the player, and put in a bid - that’s when Arsenal do need to worry, because that’s the point at which we’ll know he’s told us he wants to come to City above all others.

And if City is the move he wants, we’ll make the deal happen. Arsenal aren’t winning that race.

Until then - there’s nothing to suggest his move to Arsenal won’t happen.

I have no basis for this opinion other than how it looks and feels. Rice will end up at Arsenal, I just cannot see him at City. We will surprise everyone and find another gem. Rodri came out of nowhere amongst Niguez talk, Ferna was not the stand-out at Shakhtar, Willian was, etc. Caicedo feels more like the sort of player we would go for. Just an opinion.

Starting to agree, no way are Arsenal putting in a third bid if they think we are genuinely in for him.

Other than Barella, all others are more defensive midfielders even Rice is.To be replacement for Gundogan.

It looks like we are going to change tactic and sign someone to be box to box midfielder.

Spot on.

The reason Arsenal failed to win anything last season was 100% down to mentality with a lack of experience thrown in when the going got tough that heaped more pressure on them. Talented as you may be, you'll fall short if you don't possess that self belief and bravery that all winners have, whatever the sport.

It took winning the FA Cup in 2011 to overcome that mental barrier for us. Managers came and went but the club had conquered and laid that demon to rest. Pep, Txixi, Khaldoon etc came onboard and the rest is history.

The fans and media were awash with praise that they had brought in Gabby and Zin and how that would bring that winning mentality to get them over the line. We knew better so we let those players move on.

Recruiting Rice will be an upgrade for them but they need to overcome the demon of last season and fight off competition from squads that will also improve for 23/34. If anything it will be tougher this time around and they'll have UCL to contend with.

Rice to City ? - I'd want to know if he truly believes that he can step up to meet the challenge of playing for the best even before we consider him. If so, we'll do our utmost to help him.

Forget the "he's a great fit for the arse" - "He's a downgrade on Gundo/Bernie" - "WHU are driving up the price" bollox. If we are indeed in for him it will only be because he has the desire to win things as he has said to England colleagues. If not, off the arse he goes.

Arteta won the fa cup never kicked on till last year was close but no cigar! Next season is massive for Arteta

I would argue that Jack Grealish is the only player I felt City in Pep's time targeted as 'the one'.

In the sense that it felt like the club only wanted him, were going to pay what it took or if it didn't come off, they were not looking at alternatives in that position, at the time. All others seemed to have rumours of alternatives, or were themselves the alternatives.
so they didnt target Haaland?
