Because our terms were much better. More up front, probably easier to achieve clauses. What I don't understand is surely we had an idea what West Ham wanted, unless their indication was £100m, in which case £90m is a fair starting point.

The idea we'd somehow put in fake bids to get Arsenal to bid more is so ridiculous, I'm not sure even Talkshite would claim it. It's not asking a mate to bid a few extra quid on eBay, we're a professional football club, with rules to follow (and an investigation to deal with), we're not going to go round bidding up everyone else's targets for a laugh.

Mate, just like Eni, you're speculating what happened. It doesn't really matter, so try not to get hung up on it..

Not splitting hairs & just cutting to the chase, tonight Arse have agreed a £105m deal to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United.

Mission accomplished - Txiki Begiristain!

West Ham waited to see how much will City bid, if City did bid they would then rejected that and would wanted more money. I can see Arsenal paying them little more if no agreement is reached for "payment structure".
 
Only worry is, it is the start of the window but the midfield market is moving quickly and the fees keep increasing. Plus we've just announced to other clubs we've got 90 mil to spend on a midfielder.
 
Comparing Rice to Rodri now. Brilliant.

Let's see if that's happening next May when Rodders is lifting all kinds of shiny shit above his head and the only thing £105 million Declan Rice is lifting is crowd after they bottle 4th.
