It's not desperation tho is it ? Doyle is already a city player ,you have to think Doyle would offer far more than Phillips? Yet people think he should be given another chance ,we were prepared to offer £90m for Rice as rodders stand in ,couldn't Doyle do that in league cups ,fa cups etc ?
Phillips wasn't trusted to play 10 mins in games at 3.0 up or against Sheffield utd ,and I'm desperate to suggest Doyle mat be an option ?

This was used as a reason for not buying him for £100m. However, when the stats were drilled down, over the previous two seasons Jack had by far the most progressive carries leading to key passes, which may or may not become an assist dependent on whether the attack resulted in a goal or not.

The crucial work he does generally goes under the radar, but it's vital to the build up. In this respect, Grealish is unique, hence a £100m transfer was sanctioned.

Don’t agree that you can say that. A teams results shouldn’t be correlated with whether someone was worth the outlay. Our CL run and I would argue FA Cup and PL were squad/team results of which Jack played a part and played a better part than he did last year. Having said that, no way does his individual contributions this year justify 100M.

Jacks stats in the CL this year are P13, G0, A0. He was part of a squad, but think it’s a stretch to say we don’t win it without him. Not having the liability that is Cancelo playing LB helped us more.

Now the dust has settled on Rice and he is moving to Arsenal I am happy with the clubs approach. The narrative that we spend “oil” money with abandonment has taken another media hit. It’s just not true and we have had to walk away from a few players now most notably Van Dyk, Kane & Rice.

As fans it can be frustrating to lose out on good players but you have to respect the safe approach Khaldoon takes to looking after the club which is more important than winning a player race in the eyes of rival fans or the dishonest media.

All in all it’s the city way and it’s been a successful approach thus far. I would love a surprise signing ala Bernardo.

Based on the fact he's been at Sheffield United on loan. Not the best of signs. And Lavia isn't good enough also. Players like Rodders are one of a kind but if we're to bring in a deputy the drop off in quality can't be as stark as a Doyle/Lavia.

Doyle/lavia wouldn’t be Rodri’s deputy, that should be where Phillips picks up the slack. Or if it’s not Phillips the I’m sure the club will bring in an able “1st team” level deputy but the kids need to be around the 1st team to see if they eventually can step up.

I understand you have to be an exceptional talent to get in our first team, even more so if your from the academy but players like Macatee, Doyle etc should get a chance to be around the 1st team on the back of a promotion winning season where they were the 2 stand out players at Sheff United.

Kind of agree with you. In and around the squad, as Cole and Rico have been. I know one thing. I wouldn't want another loan. That goes nowhere. Tidy sale to one of the mid-table or lower table PL clubs, if necessary. I think they're at least worth that.

There are players out there who will be equal or better for the same money. We have proven it time and again with buys from South America, eastern and western Europe. I'll be happy with Gvardiol & Kovacic incoming and Doyle & Macatee shoring up the squad. Gomez probably needs a loan at a lower half premier league team.

I know on this forum that our academy kids such as Doyle and McAtee are future Balon D'or winners but it's a huge step from the Championship to the Premier League - and an even bigger step up from good PL sides to us.

Average Premier league player, not elite level, I hope he proves me wrong but I can't see it happening and I simply don't think pep trusts him.

Not playing against Sheffield in the cup semi said it all, and that with Rodri running on fumes and huge games on the horizon.

I don't think it's that at all. I think we research targets well in advance and decide a value - we then offer that or very close to that figure and if its turned down just walk away.
All 'winning' a bidding war does is shows the world that your initial offer is not serious and you can be squeezed for more.

No, I don't think McAtee will make it with us. In fact, I'll be astounded if he makes a single meaningful appearance for us next season.
