Istanbul CL Final chaos | City Matters statement (p 133)

I wonder what the club did in terms of assessing suitability of the bus transfers for anyone with disabilities. It was completely unsuitable on that car park.
I think the club assumed/expected that UEFA would have done due diligence on the suitability of the venue. This was their mistake, with hindsight, they should have done their own checks. It was obvious that Car Park had only been created at the time the fan park was constructed. Interesting that the club have declined to comment when approached by the MEN.

Yeah. Big mistake thinking Uefa would be up to the task.

The club mde a number of site visits, and (I'm told) had reservations about the arrangements. But they said nothing and have still said nothing. At least Liverpool FC support their fans. City's non-reaction has been utterly shameful.

It beggars belief that they visited that site, had reservations about its suitability and didn’t raise their concerns with UEFA. As others have said, it seems as though they don’t want any more hassle with UEFA.

I actually think that makes it worse that they've visited beforehand.

I bet the only thing the club has taken on board from Istanbul from a fans perspective is that some of us paid up to 600 euros for a match ticket.......some juicy ticket rises next season incoming.

Sssshhhhh, I can’t hear the club’s comments over all our complaints. What do you mean they haven’t said anything yet! Maybe they think as we won the treble they don’t have to comment. Absolutely disgusting that they haven’t made a single comment about the disgraceful issues we had to deal with.
The club are gathering the maximum amount of information from the maximum number of sources to present a compelling case for change and compensation by and from UEFA.

City won't comment until they are in position 'A'.

Have trust and patience

I love a good bit of sarcasm.

The thing is, if the club did visit, they wouldn't experience the real situations fans faced. Did they ride the Metro there and back or a nice chauffeur driven car to and back?
I doubt they attempted to get their via a bus and walk up / down a gravelly path to / from the stadium.amd certainly not at 1am.

If only, by the time the club make some watered down comment it'll be out of date.

Step one should have been proper notification that we were officially collating evidence and what happened appeared to be totally unacceptable but, unless I missed it, that never happened.

Well, we all know that mate. Nor would hundreds of taxis be parked like Spartans in a scene from 300 be blocking the exit etc.

As I've said previously I think the estimated times were heavily doctored to make sure people didn't use the metro. Even if there wasn't a game on and with less traffic on the roads I don't think those times would have been achieved. If they were accurate and say SAW to Fan Zone in town was listed as 3.5 hours everybody would have been looking at alternative transport and kicking up a stink BEFORE Istanbul. There'd have been outrage and the press would have got hold of it. Headlines like 'UEFA Warn City Fans They Should Expect to Spend 8 or 9 Hours on Bus for Final' would be doing the rounds. As it stood the one hour from the Fan Zone in town to the stadium didn't sound too bad...... if only.

Parts of the Metro weren’t great, you got to one station which we thought was the stadium stop and the police were stopping everyone to look at their tickets to get through a gap no bigger than a door way, This created a crush and they gave up and waved everyone through.

We stupidly took the advice at the end of the game getting on the buses and it took four and a half hour to get home with two hours of it in 1st gear on the waste ground that was supposed to be a car park. I would say I am abled body person, however it felt like slowly being crucified stood up crammed in but holding onto the bars above to keep you upright. God knows what it was like for other people who would have struggled to do so.

Check getting on bus. Then a further check getting in the fanzone! Why?
Checks checks and more checks. Including the airports must’ve gone through about ten different checkpoints. Once through you’d have expected a land of milk and honey with flunkies wafting huge feathers whilst scantily clad nymphs dropped grapes into our mouths. Instead it was a dry wasteland of run out beer and two concession stands selling water no bigger than an egg cup full.
All in all it was a good job we won that’s all I can say on the Atatürk hell.

If it werent for the stoicism of our supporters this would have gone very wrong.
Had it have been Liverpool or Utd fans the outcome would have been very, very different and then the issue would be investigated properly.
I agree. I thought the good humour, behaviour and patience of the city fans was unbelievably good, didn't hear one person kicking off on the buses despite being parched and the middle of the night.

You weren’t on our bus when the driver didn’t seem to know the way, when it got to half 3 in the morning and we were still driving he was getting some shit believe you me.
